Do you know that if you breastfeed you get 10 extra points a day on Weight Watchers? As far as I’m concerned, that’s reason enough to nurse Mia until she starts kindergarten! Okay, that’s kinda much, but damn, I’m totally not looking forward to scaling back 10 points when I’m done nursing. She just turned one, so I’m not really done, but just the thought makes me want to stress eat!!

After I had my first child, I wanted to join WW Online, but they didn’t allow you to account for breastfeeding, so I was discouraged and waited. I waited too long and ended up gaining back all the weight I’d lost after he was born. YIKES! When I finally signed up in January of 2006, I weighed almost as much as I did the day my son was born. Double YIKES!

I guess where I’m going with this is that you can diet while you’re breastfeeding. You need to make sure you’re getting enough calories to produce adequate milk for your child though. According to WW, you need to consume an additional 500 calories which equals 10 points. Isn’t that crazy? You burn 500 calories a day just breastfeeding. You can see how I got into trouble the first time around. After I quit breastfeeding my son when he was 20 months old, I continued to eat way too much. It wasn’t long before I’d gained 30 pounds!

So here I am, breastfeeding and on WW, doing it right this time. I’m so excited that I won’t hit that post-breastfeeding slide this time around and gain weight. Although it will be doubly-hard to give up those extra 10 points a day. I’m totally not looking forward to it.
