The Challenge has begun!

December 3rd, 2008 | Comments | Posted in Uncategorized | by beth

So, are you ready?  We hope so, we’re not just ready ourselves to jump on this weight loss wagon, we are ready to have you join us!

Here’s how it will work.

Every week, (after this week, it will be every Wednesday,) you’ll write a post on your personal blog about the challenge, you’ll then come here to Shrinking Jeans and type in your blog name and a link to your most current weight challenge post (a.ka. your permalink).  Keep it real, don’t just post when you’ve lost weight, post ALL OF THE TIME.  It not only helps us feel normal reading about other people’s struggles, but it also helps you remain accountable for your weight loss.  (how to you paste a link from your blog onto our link list?  Click here for help)

For the first week, we invite you to write an introduction to yourself, allowing others to learn about you and your goals.  Feel free to post before pictures and your past history with your weight!

Once you’ve written that post, copy your permalink and paste it into our link list.  Now before we go any further, we actually call our link list, Mr. Linky, which sounds a little dirty, but it’s not, we swear.  It’s just a wonderful way to keep a list of everyone who is participating.

So, here you go, here’s your first Mr. Linky.  Don’t be nervous, YOU CAN’T MESS IT UP.    Anything can be deleted either by you or us, so relax, it’s easy!  Tell us about yourself!

*****We are having technical difficulties with good ol’ Mr. Linky today, so please bear with us! Until we can get him up and running, please feel free to leave your information in the comments section of this post. When we have the issues ironed out, we’ll Twitter about it, so make sure you’re following us on twitter! Thanks so much for your patience!*****

  • My name is Kirsten, I have a fast metabolism AND a flabby tummy and thighs. This is where my focus is going to be. If I can tone up and be healthier, I will be happy. Thirteen months ago I completed a half marathon and today I have trouble jogging 2 miles.
  • I just posted (even though I should have yesterday). Just a heads up! http://www.lifeofbobbi.com/archives/864
  • Well, I just started so I haven't weighed in yet but my starting weight was 147. My first post is: http://grayandbecca.com/blog/2008/12/02/shrinki...

    Yay!
  • I spaced posting yesterday (wed) so I am doing it now! I started this challenge at 167 on Monday morning. My goal is to be down to 130 by this summer, but 37 lbs in 6 months may be a little excessive. As long as I keep losing or maintaining once I lose I will be happy. I was down about .5 lbs yesterday when I weighed myself. I am drinking a ton of water and being really careful about my portion control. Good luck to everyone!

Hi! I am Amy. I lost 40 lbs on WW in the last 1 1/2 years. In the past few months, I have been stress eating and have gained about 15lbs back! After 8 weeks of missing meetings, I weighed in yesterday and gained 2.6 (Not as bad as I thought it would be after that long). Anyway, my 1st goal is to lose those 15lbs again. Then I will set another small goal. My ultimate goal is to lose about 70lbs. I just CAN'T focus on that number it seems so discouraging. Anyway, thanks for this site and the challenge!
  • I weighted in at 217 this morning (yikes!). I was hesitant to post about my weight struggles on my blog, but hey, it's all about keeping it real, right?

    Here's this week's post: http://unlikelyhousewife.blogspot.com/2008/12/o...
  • I posted this the other day: http://caseyrandom.blogspot.com/2008/12/my-jean...

I didn't post my starting weight because I didn't have a scale yet, I'll post it on my blog later today. it's 146 right now, in September after having the baby I was at 179.
  • I posted yesterday:
    http://violazuppa.wordpress.com/2008/12/03/star...

Weighed in at 223.0 lbs yesterday. At least I'm down 4 lbs from September!

Right now I'm just hoping NOT to gain over the holidays. Losing would be nice, but I'm being realistic. I'd like to lose 10 lbs by my next dance competition (February 21st) but I'll have to see how it goes from here and adjust accordingly.
  • Here I am. Weighing in at a lovely 163. Not posting that on my blog-- I just can't do it. Baby steps, folks. I've never even told my husband!

  • I'll be weighing in on Sundays at church (home scale not trustworthy after 4 years of toddler/preschooler "interaction")- so I won't really have a concrete amount lost til NEXT Wednesday. LOL
  • I started back on weightwatchers on Monday the 1st at 172. Weighed in Wednesday at 170. My goal is to weigh 150 lbs (ideally by the summer). Good luck everyone!
  • I'm writing a post today and will get it up soon!
  • I've posted and all my personal info is there. I hope Mr. Linky is working soon. :)
  • I's me again, the one wearing elastic pants. I posted.

  • On December 1st I weighed in at 152lbs. Although, I have been fine with this for years, I am starting to feel this weight on my joints. This has been a transitional year for me as far as how I feel. It's time to get lean! When I went in for a mammogram, the nurse insisted I give up the quantity of coffee I drink and that I get much slimmer. So I'm going for it. Here is my Post:

    Great Blessings to everyone participating!!
  • My post is up but I don't know how to insert a link in a comment. I weighed in this morning at 171 lbs. My goal is to lose 31 lbs.

I haven't started exercising yet but I have cut out all the extra sweets that I tend to consume as soon as I get home from work right before dinner. It's not much but it's a start. It's actually a huge thing for me since I'm a sweets junkie.
  • Are you kidding? I wish my jeans were shrinking, but right now I am wearing pants with an elactic waistband. So the good part (I guess) is that I forced myself to step on the scale this morning and it was ONLY 182lbs. I was fearing much worse. The even better part is that I exercised on Monday for the first time since February and it felt SO GOOD. The bad part- I haven't exercised again and I'm stress-eating at night. The whole "hubby wqas laid off a few weeks ago and we are now entertaining job opportunities outside of where we live" is pushing me over the edge. But that's OK. There is always tomorrow. I have so many blog posts running through my head right now but not enough time to write. This is the first time I have sat down at my computer since 9am!

I'm Ann and I have tons of weight to lose and I'm off to a bad start, but I am determined to not get discouraged and keep at it....I'm looking forward to the encouragement from others on this journey.
  • Wow!! I'm so excited to see everyone's comments. Thank you so much for joining us!

Today I weighed in at 154. My highest weight ever was 193 and 3 years ago I lost 48 pounds on WW, and I kept it off. The problem is that I wasn't done, but I've since had my second child, and now I'm about back and about 5 pounds from my lowest point on WW. I WILL lose a total of 24 pounds bringing me down to 130. Oh yes, I will :)

As far as this challenge goes, my goal is to lose 6 pounds.

I can't wait to check out all of your posts!!
  • Hi, everyone! I stepped on the scale this evening and I'm currently at 199. I don't care how much I lose as long as I lose something. Anything is better then gaining.
  • I'm so very proud of everyone! This is what the sisterhood is all about. Sharing a journey together!
  • I currently weigh 159 and hope to lose about 10 to 15 lbs. I started a "Couch to 10K" running program and I am in the 6th week of that. I hope to do my first 5K next month. I've also cut out a lot of the sugar and sweets from my diet but I don't believe in completely illiminating it. I have done WW once before (before I got pregnant with my first) and had success with that and that is sort of what I am doing now - portion control etc... Anyway, I am so excited about having people to share the journey with! : )
  • I'm starting this challenge at 164, and I've been there for a couple weeks now. I've posted about it on my health blog here
    http://diexercise.blogspot.com/
This week has started out poorly, but it is shaping up better. I plan to get down to 160 by the end of this month.
I'm looking forward to checking out what you all say about your experiences this month.
  • Jen
  • I'm at 151.8. We can call that my starting weight even though this is so not the start of things for me. It's the start of this challenge, I guess. I've been trying to get below 150 for at least 6 months now and always hoover right there gaining and loosing the same 3 pounds or so. I swear I'm gonna break that barrier! And soon!
  • I'm so excited to be participating in this challenge! I've written a couple of posts so far, here they are:

  • Hello all! I don't own a scale so the last time I was weighed happened to be on Nov. 25th..I weighed in at 148 and today I weighed myself at the gym. I weigh 145! I lost three pounds so far and I couldn't be happier!
  • I weighed in this morning at 161.5. I did not treat myself right over Thanksgiving and the week that followed. I was talking to my sister last night and realized that I never set an actual time goal for myself, so here it is:

I will lose 3 lbs by Dec. 31 and will never pay for a WW meeting again!
  • I started the challenge on Dec 1st weighing 183.5 and began WW online on Tuesday. I weighed in today at 183.5. So, no loss, but no gain either. I had a rough day and let a friend talk me into fast food for lunch. Not the best way to start off...
  • I weighed in this morning at 180.6, and began WW today as well. So far, so good! Everyone keep up the great work! I'm looking forward to blogging about the first week of my progress tonight (even though I've only been doing it for a couple days).
  • When the site started I was 213.5#
    On Dec 1st I was 209.5#

    Today I was 209#

    (-4.5)

    Great job ladies (and gent)!
  • Well, I'll start us off here! ;o) I lost 1.2 pounds this week. I was hoping for bigger numbers, but I will take it. I'm on my way! I am 3/3 for the gym this week and it feels GOOD!
