Burnout

[ 10 ] 01/02/2009 |

Confession: I haven’t been to the gym ALL WEEK.

True, the kids are home on Christmas break which makes it that much more of a pain-in-the-ass, but I think I was beginning to feel a little burnt out. After four months of hitting it hard, I think this break is just what I needed. Now on Monday, after I have dropped the twins off at school, I can head to the gym feeling renewed and well-rested.

It is the beginning of a new year and this is a time when many of us are just starting new eating plans and have just made our exercise vows. You may have to try many new things before you find an activity that you enjoy and suits your style. My personal favorites? I love the Turbo Jam series. The Precor AMT. Aerobics. The arc trainer.

What exercise/activity do you LOVE?

I am absolutely addicted to Hot Yoga (Bikram yoga) and try to go no less than 4 times a week. If you don’t know what this is, it is doing yoga in a heated environment (usually anywhere from 94 to 104 degrees). I went Monday and Tuesday, but then came down with this dratted cold and have not felt well enough to go to class. In addition to Hot Yoga, I am planning on adding at least a mile walk to my daily activities as well.

I’m a simple girl really. I haven’t tried a bunch of different activities because I have always enjoyed running (though some would argue it’s jogging because I have never been fast). Running has always shown results for me. It helps my posture, lengthens and thins out my waist and firms up my thighs and calves. So, despite the fact that I don’t have the opportunity to go to the gym and try out different classes, it’s a good thing I enjoy the treadmill because that is really my only option!

I love the ecliptical machines. But mine broke a few years ago, so I have to use my Husbands’ treadmill. I can’t use my arms because I have to hold on to the sides. So I don’t feel like I get a good workout.

Ok so love is a strong word for exercise but I really like taking Zumba Classes. They are great even for a person who has no rhythm and can’t dance. It’s a great way to pass an hour of cardio and boy do you sweat. I am starting to enjoy the elliptical machine again but it will be a few more weeks before that moves up to a really like spot on my list!

Ooh, I think I would enjoy the hot yoga, esp. during the winter! I wish we had more variety offered in my town, I love dance-oriented classes as well, but they are rare around here!
