30 Day Shred

[ 47 ] 03/27/2009 |

Fitness Friday

Seems like everywhere I click on the internet these days, I am hearing tidbits about Jillian’s 30 Day Shred. I actually broke down and ordered a copy the other day, as well as a copy to give away to a lucky person in the future. Here is a summary of the DVD:

Jillian Michaels, winning trainer on NBC’s The Biggest Loser, helps you lose big – up to 20 pounds in 30 days! Her 30 Day Shred DVD includes three 20-minute circuit-training workouts that burn mega calories and build strong, lean muscle. Each level contains a 20-minute workout based on Jillian’s exclusive 3-2-1 Strength/Cardio/Ab training circuit: 3 minutes of strength, 2 minutes of cardio, and 1 minute of ab work. There’s also a brief warm-up session and a cool down stretch. Follow Jillian’s program for 30 days and you will see amazing results!

Okay, Sisters, I want to know… Are you a shred-head? Have you tried it? If so, please leave a brief review down in the comments for us!

I have this. Unfortunately, I don't do them as often as I would like.

But when I first bought this? I lost 5 pounds super fast.

Now if only I would keep using this DVD. It's a VERY hard workout for 20 minutes! WORTH IT because I hate doing 45-60 minutes workouts. I have no time for that, thanks to grad school

That is from a couple of months ago. I have since done all 3 levels. I really enjoy it because it's hard and it's quick. I can throw it in and get it done without too much interruption from the kids. (Except them yelling at me that I am not supposed to take breaks)

I bought this a few months ago tried a few times, and for those few times I loved it. I like that it's only 20 minutes long and it moves along quite fast. I haven't done it in a while but plan on starting up again for the Shrinking to Summer Challenge.

  • http://www.satcygirl.com/staceyheneveld/Blog/Entries/2009/3/25_30x30_Update_-_Shrinking_into_Summer.html Stacey

I was doing it for a while and really liked it. Then I got busy with packing and moving and just haven't gotten the DVD back out. I miss it. I keep telling myself that I need to get back on it.

  • Christine

I have never tried it but it sounds intriguing! I would love to win it!

I just started this Shred video on Sunday. I honestly couldn't move very well on Monday and used muscles I haven't in years. But I kept with it everyday this week and really like it. It is tough and very intense.

I am not quite the Shred Queen (I think Kate deserves that honor because she's the only person I know doing Shred who has done all 3 levels), but I'm a big fan.

For 20 minutes, if you REALLY push yourself and do everything she tells you, you can get a great workout in. You will probably swear at her multiple times the first few times you do Workout 1. Pretty sure I called her the B-word 8 times. :-s

I see a difference within a week or two. My triceps and butt start to look pretty good! I love doing Shred in combination with the elliptical, spinning/cycling and yoga at the gym. Great way to burn 200-250 calories in 20 minutes.

I am a shredhead and am on day 4 although the first 3 were sporatic so I'm starting fresh to do 30 days in order. Although not sure yet what I'm going to do during spring break week. I have to warn you that it hurts! I have been running with the C2K and was thinking that I was getting fitter, but when I did this the first day I could move for 3 days. Last night was the first night that I made it through the whole first workout thinking I wasn't going to die. My legs burned and I could barely reach up with my arms. But, no pain, no gain right. I like how quick it goes!! Good luck.

Sounds like a cool DVD! I had never heard of it before this …sounds like something to check out! Not that I would be likely to do it at home, since I haven't even broken out the Wii Fit that I begged my dh for for Christmas! I'm soooo bad, but I'm getting better!

I will be a Shred Head starting Monday or maybe after my stitches are out on Wednesday. The DVD, the weights and the yoga mat await me.

And I will be taking pictures of my shrinking muffin top.

I think everyone I know except me does this workout. I would totally love to get it & give it a try!!

  • darl_jo

i borrowed my neighbors copy of it and am on day 3 if i do it today. I'm super sore from it and thats not even doing it right. I don't have the weights (man i need to get some) and totally woose out on the jump rope part. I do have to say that i've lost 1lb in the last two days and i can't help but htink that this has a little to do with it.

  • Christy_TheSisterhood

Sounds like I need to get myself a copy! All the cool kids are doing it, huh?!!

  • http://www.erin-l-hansen.blogspot.com erin

Sounds like a good workout. I've just ordered it! Do I need a jumprope to go with it?

  • kateb

No jump rope necessary. Just some hand weights. They also suggest a yoga mat, but I don't use one. I just do it on the carpet in front of the tv. The jump rope is just “pretend.” :) I have 3lb and 5lb hand weights and in the beginning I switched between the 2 depending on the activity and now I do them all with the 5s.

  • Lissa_ShrinkingJeans

Wow, thanks for all the input girls!! My copy gets here on Monday, can't wait to try it!

  • http://bacardimama.blogspot.com/ Nancy

I just got the Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2009 for the Wii. I'm starting it tomorrow as I join the Sisterhood. I'll let you know how it is. I'd love to win the dvd though.

  • shrinkingjeans

Nancy! How exciting! Please let us know what you think! I'm in the market
for a new Wii workout game!!

so i just finished day 10 of level 1 and i'll officially be moving on to level 2 this evening with my boyfriend. it took two weeks instead of 10 days to actually do it (since we took breaks when we were just too sore/busy to do it). i'm only 1/3 of my way through the entire thing but i can tell you.. this is changing my life. i have been at a lighter weight before in my life but never, ever have i ever felt this strong physically & also motivated to be HEALTHY and not just look good in a pair of skinny jeans. jillian is really motivating, i love her style of training. she's a hard ass but let's face it, most people need a hard ass to get their own butts into shape! i know i did!

the shred is my only form of exercise other than brisk walks every few days with the boyfriend (those we always just did for fun). i've (we both) been a fixed calorie diet using fitday.com and cookinglight.com for great, great recipes. i've been dieting for the past three weeks while i've been shredding for the past two weeks. my goal is to lose 15 pounds and reduce my body fat percentage by summer and maintain the exercising and eating healthy for the rest of my life!

as for numbers, i've lost 4 lbs. so far and 7 inches… including 1.5 inches from both my hips and waist as well as 1 inch from each thigh!! as a pear-shaped woman, i was in shock that my body could change that much!! my stomach is flatter and what i thought was a permanent crease that outlined my pooch? well it's disappearing :)

I think I will have to try this out. I think this will really help me. I have liked everything she has put out there.

  • Chelsea Nay

I love this DVD! I lost six pounds the first week and i try to do it every day but it just doesnt happen. I do love how short it is even though it is seriously intense!

I am so interested about the DVD. I really need to loose weight to return my shape..

  • jamie21785

Amazing dvd. I have had a ton of success with the three levels. Although most days I do level three sometimes I switch back to one and two. It has made me lean up and loose inches fast. This with a healthy diet has helped me get compliments from quite a few people. Go get the dvd- it's $10 on Amazon. Good luck-

  • Kim G.

I just started this today, I did Level 1. My question is, do I do Level 1 every day for 10 days, then move to Level 2 for 10 days, and then Level 3 for 10 days? Thanks for any input :)

  • shrinkingjeans

Yup, that is what most of us have done. If you don't feel like you are ready
to move on to the next level, you can always stay extra days on any level!

  • Kim G.

    Thanks : ) That's what I will do then.

  • Kim G.

Day 2 done. I think I did better today at keeping up. I hope it gets easier every day.

  • juliebeauvais07

I am down a pants size in my first 5 days :)

  • eyeglassesonline

Well, as a personal experience i would like to say that the training did help me loose 20 pounds in a matter of just a month.

well i have just bought the dvd and done the level 1 for 2 days so far. i must say it's a very hard workout, and i too called her the b-word a couple of times! my chest and shoulders were very sore after the first day! i believe i will see results soon, i'll let ya know!

  • Paula

This DVD Rocks. I am sore no doubt, but it's a good sore an I'm empowered sore. Jillian speaks to you through the dvd, could i just shut it off sure, but I want arms like Jillian so push I must. I feel great, you will too. We really can do this!!! Power to the people.

  • Cat

Just finished my first workout with Jillian. I loved it, but it's hard to walk right now. My goal is to stick with it for the full 3o days and then some.

  • jacqueline macdonald

OMG!!! I had to actually STOP doing the 30 day shred because I was TOTALLY worn out by the time I got done!! I didn't like how I felt. I am however going to give it another try. We'll see if I still feel BLAH! after I get done with the workout. Any suggestions would be appreciated!:)

I started the 30 day shred on Monday and today is Thursday. I litteraly hurt worse than I ever have in my life Tuesday & Wednesday, I could barely walk. I am however going to stick with it. Today I feel so much better. I totally have seen the results in a co-worker of mine. She looks great! She has moved on to another one of Jillians dvd's so she loaned me the 30 day Shred. I have cursed Jillian, but if I can already feel a difference, so I know it is worth it.

  • shrinkingjeans

Exactly!! It will be SO worth it! I think the first 3 days were the worst
    for me! -Melissa

  • Ellen

I have done 6 days of it and love it. It is a fast, intense 20 minutes. If you get bored then you can skip levels and do the modified versions if that particular level is too difficult. I've only done levels 1 and 2. I don't like to do the exact same workouts too many times in a row. I don't need to lose weight, just stay fit and tone up. I already run 10-20 miles per week and work with weights, so I consider myself pretty fit. This is a great change and I am sore.

  • Fecia77

I have done the shred for 3 days now… I used to be a ballerina, working out/dancing about 16 hours a week. Now that I'm a mom to a 3 year old, and haven't danced in 5 years, let's just say I'm not nearly that active anymore. Today I am the most sore I have EVER been in my life. I haven't lost any weight yet… But hopefully that's coming soon. Jillian is a She-Devil. I love/hate her.

  • shrinkingjeans

I almost spit my coffee everywhere!! She-Devil for sure. I totally
remember the first round with the shred and being so sore I couldn't
move my arms or legs. So worth the pain. Every bit of it!
