30 Day Shred

Fitness Friday

Seems like everywhere I click on the internet these days, I am hearing tidbits about Jillian’s 30 Day Shred. I actually broke down and ordered a copy the other day, as well as a copy to give away to a lucky person in the future. Here is a summary of the DVD:

Jillian Michaels, winning trainer on NBC’s The Biggest Loser, helps you lose big – up to 20 pounds in 30 days! Her 30 Day Shred DVD includes three 20-minute circuit-training workouts that burn mega calories and build strong, lean muscle. Each level contains a 20-minute workout based on Jillian’s exclusive 3-2-1 Strength/Cardio/Ab training circuit: 3 minutes of strength, 2 minutes of cardio, and 1 minute of ab work. There’s also a brief warm-up session and a cool down stretch. Follow Jillian’s program for 30 days and you will see amazing results!

Okay, Sisters, I want to know… Are you a shred-head? Have you tried it? If so, please leave a brief review down in the comments for us!

I love this DVD! I lost six pounds the first week and i try to do it every day but it just doesnt happen. I do love how short it is even though it is seriously intense!
  • so i just finished day 10 of level 1 and i'll officially be moving on to level 2 this evening with my boyfriend. it took two weeks instead of 10 days to actually do it (since we took breaks when we were just too sore/busy to do it). i'm only 1/3 of my way through the entire thing but i can tell you.. this is changing my life. i have been at a lighter weight before in my life but never, ever have i ever felt this strong physically & also motivated to be HEALTHY and not just look good in a pair of skinny jeans. jillian is really motivating, i love her style of training. she's a hard ass but let's face it, most people need a hard ass to get their own butts into shape! i know i did!

the shred is my only form of exercise other than brisk walks every few days with the boyfriend (those we always just did for fun). i've (we both) been a fixed calorie diet using fitday.com and cookinglight.com for great, great recipes. i've been dieting for the past three weeks while i've been shredding for the past two weeks. my goal is to lose 15 pounds and reduce my body fat percentage by summer and maintain the exercising and eating healthy for the rest of my life!

as for numbers, i've lost 4 lbs. so far and 7 inches... including 1.5 inches from both my hips and waist as well as 1 inch from each thigh!! as a pear-shaped woman, i was in shock that my body could change that much!! my stomach is flatter and what i thought was a permanent crease that outlined my pooch? well it's disappearing :)

    I just twittered
  • I just got the Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2009 for the Wii. I'm starting it tomorrow as I join the Sisterhood. I'll let you know how it is. I'd love to win the dvd though.

  • Wow, thanks for all the input girls!! My copy gets here on Monday, can't wait to try it!
  • Sounds like a good workout. I've just ordered it! Do I need a jumprope to go with it?

No jump rope necessary. Just some hand weights. They also suggest a yoga mat, but I don't use one. I just do it on the carpet in front of the tv. The jump rope is just "pretend." :) I have 3lb and 5lb hand weights and in the beginning I switched between the 2 depending on the activity and now I do them all with the 5s.
  • Sounds like I need to get myself a copy! All the cool kids are doing it, huh?!!
  • i borrowed my neighbors copy of it and am on day 3 if i do it today. I'm super sore from it and thats not even doing it right. I don't have the weights (man i need to get some) and totally woose out on the jump rope part. I do have to say that i've lost 1lb in the last two days and i can't help but htink that this has a little to do with it.
  • I think everyone I know except me does this workout. I would totally love to get it & give it a try!!
  • I will be a Shred Head starting Monday or maybe after my stitches are out on Wednesday. The DVD, the weights and the yoga mat await me.

And I will be taking pictures of my shrinking muffin top.
  • Sounds like a cool DVD! I had never heard of it before this ...sounds like something to check out! Not that I would be likely to do it at home, since I haven't even broken out the Wii Fit that I begged my dh for for Christmas! I'm soooo bad, but I'm getting better!
  • I am a shredhead and am on day 4 although the first 3 were sporatic so I'm starting fresh to do 30 days in order. Although not sure yet what I'm going to do during spring break week. I have to warn you that it hurts! I have been running with the C2K and was thinking that I was getting fitter, but when I did this the first day I could move for 3 days. Last night was the first night that I made it through the whole first workout thinking I wasn't going to die. My legs burned and I could barely reach up with my arms. But, no pain, no gain right. I like how quick it goes!! Good luck.

I am not quite the Shred Queen (I think Kate deserves that honor because she's the only person I know doing Shred who has done all 3 levels), but I'm a big fan.

For 20 minutes, if you REALLY push yourself and do everything she tells you, you can get a great workout in. You will probably swear at her multiple times the first few times you do Workout 1. Pretty sure I called her the B-word 8 times. :-s

I see a difference within a week or two. My triceps and butt start to look pretty good! I love doing Shred in combination with the elliptical, spinning/cycling and yoga at the gym. Great way to burn 200-250 calories in 20 minutes.
  • I just started this Shred video on Sunday. I honestly couldn't move very well on Monday and used muscles I haven't in years. But I kept with it everyday this week and really like it. It is tough and very intense.

I have never tried it but it sounds intriguing! I would love to win it!
  • I was doing it for a while and really liked it. Then I got busy with packing and moving and just haven't gotten the DVD back out. I miss it. I keep telling myself that I need to get back on it.
  • I bought this a few months ago tried a few times, and for those few times I loved it. I like that it's only 20 minutes long and it moves along quite fast. I haven't done it in a while but plan on starting up again for the Shrinking to Summer Challenge.

That is from a couple of months ago. I have since done all 3 levels. I really enjoy it because it's hard and it's quick. I can throw it in and get it done without too much interruption from the kids. (Except them yelling at me that I am not supposed to take breaks)

I have this. Unfortunately, I don't do them as often as I would like.

But when I first bought this? I lost 5 pounds super fast.

Now if only I would keep using this DVD. It's a VERY hard workout for 20 minutes! WORTH IT because I hate doing 45-60 minutes workouts. I have no time for that, thanks to grad school
