Let's Jump Rope!

[ 19 ] 06/09/2009 |

Jumping rope is one of the most simple, inexpensive, most effective ways to get a work out in.

Don’t believe me?  Well, did you know that you can burn up to 1000 calories in an hour just by jumping rope?  That not only is it a fantastic cardio work out, but it’s also a total body work out?  It’s true.

Okay, stop and pick your mouths up off the floor.  I am not suggesting that you jump rope for an hour solid.  Heck, there’s no way I could jump rope for a solid hour.  BUT we are having a challenge!!!

Everyone has a jump rope, right?  No?  Then, go get one! Your mission for this challenge is to jump rope for 10 minutes every day for a week!  Just 10 minutes of your day!  That’s nothing, right?  If you can’t jump for the entire 10 minutes, I don’t care.  Take a 5 second breather and start again.  Just keep moving for those 10 minutes.  Also, we want you to time how long you can jump without stopping!

Here are the rules:

1. You must jump for 10 minutes every day.  Even if you have to stop for 5 seconds and start again, you have to jump for 10 minutes.

2. Time how long you can jump without stopping, even if it’s longer than 10 minutes!

3. Come back each day and tell us that you’ve completed the challenge for the day and how long you could jump without stopping!

So, let’s see who can jump the longest!!  Make it fun!  Jump to music! Get your kids to do it, too!  Are you with me?!  Let’s jump!

About april: I'm a brand new cyclist! In just a few short months, the sport has reminded me that it's all about the journey, and I need to enjoy the ride. I live with my two dogs and two birds, and love to spoil my nephew. Oh yeah, and I'm 32. View author profile.

How is it that the most simple of exercises are the ones that kill you the most? Jump ropping, planks, wall sits. Arg. But good challenge. My gym routine was getting boring.

I'm in! I didn't have a jump rope when I first read this, but I just bought one. And I can't wait for it to kick my butt! But I'll tell ya, I'm not good at it. Maybe by the end of a week I will be though!

I did it!! I did it!! I did it!! WOW, did I do it! AND I shredded today!

I'm a hot, sweaty mess, but I was able to jump rope for 10 minutes straight without stopping. Well, except when I tripped over my jump rope and had to restart 100x!

Bring it girls! I'm shooting for 12 minutes tomorrow!

OK, I'm a somewhat coordinated person. I dont consider myself clumsy or too much of a disaster. But that 10 minutes of supposed “jumping rope” made me feel like an uncoordinated idiot! I only ever got 15 straight without tripping on the rope! That's so sad! What the heck?!?!

I can see how it's a great workout since I'm dripping sweat and heaving in breathe – but sheesh. I was gritting my teeth the whole time with frustration. I actually threw my jump rope across the room at about the 5 minute mark. And it was totally unsatisfying – what I really want to do is turn on the oven to 800 degrees and throw it in there or something. … But I won't. I'll try again tomorrow. *sigh*

OMG, 4 min without stopping … who the HELL is talking about 12 … you guys obviously have a gift I do not!!!
Tomorrow, 4 1/2, if I am not in too much pain!!
