The best tool I have

June 11th, 2009 | Comments | Posted in Fitness | by thea

One of my biggest issues is exercise.  I’m not an active person, I never really have been.  I make an effort, but I just really don’t like to exercise.

Go, me!

Realizing that I need to do SOMETHING, I wear a pedometer every day.  It really is motivating to see exactly how many steps I am taking each day.  I also use a step conversion chart so that I get “credit” for all the other stuff I do during the day…vacuuming, mopping, EVERYTHING counts.

Then I decided to take it one step further.  I found a website that allows me to log my steps and then puts my progress on a map so I can see exactly how far I’ve walked.

Another feature of the site is that you can set up “buddy groups”.  This allows your friends (or..ahem..SISTERS) from across the country to join up and encourage each other as you work towards a group goal.

Head on over to America on the Move and check it out! If you are interested in joining in the Shrinking Sisters group, leave me a comment and I’ll let you know how to get it set up!

  • I need to get me one of those. Our province (well, all the provinces across Canada, I believe) has a fitness site along this same idea. You're supposed to enter teams and see how many times you can collectively "walk around the province" in a certain amount of time. Kinda cool.
  • Thea -- I'd be interested in doing this with you. I have a pedometer (although I'm sure it needs a fresh battery!) and would love to actually use it! With kids in tow all day, every day, adding up my mileage like this may be only proof of exercise I get some days. Let me know what to do!

As long as it is easy and quick to do, I'd be interested! It might motivate me to see how I am doing and to try to do better!
