EA Sports Active – Day 1

[ 18 ] 08/31/2009 |

EASchall

Today is the first day of our EA Sports Active 30 Day Challenge for the Wii!  Are you ready?

I popped in the disc this morning after I took my son to school.  I set my daughter, Emma (A.K.A. My Shadow), up with her own little set of resistance cables and told her she could stand next to me and do the exercises.

You’d think I had told her she was winning a lifetime supply of rainbows and stuffed animals.  She was so excited.

I had started the 30 Day Challenge before, but hadn’t completed it.  I went ahead and deleted my old data and started the challenge over.  I couldn’t remember how long the workouts were, so I opted for the medium level.

Maybe it’s corny…maybe it’s dumb.  But I really love when that little onscreen trainer tells me that I am poetry in motion.  I love how stinkin’ positive she is all the time.

Three things I noticed:

  1. Sports bras are not just for running.  I need to strap the girls in a little better next time.
  2. Squats are the devil.
  3. Inline skating is the spawn of the devil. (Emma may have said “Mommy, why do you keep grunting?”)

I finished up the medium intensity in a little less than 20 minutes.  I am now a sweaty mess. Emma may have said “Ewww!  Don’t hug me!”

And for the first time in a long time, I’m looking forward to working out tomorrow! I’ll probably even go crazy and take it up to HIGH INTENSITY!  Look out!

How’d you guys do on your first day?  Easier than you expected?  Harder than you expected?  Let us know how it went!

I'm so glad you're enjoying it. It amazingly manages to be fun and challenging at the same time.
And hunny, you ain't seen nothing yet. Wait until you get to the squats with calf raises. I was making noises that I didn't know my body was capable of. When it was over my husband was on the floor lauging his ass off and said “Oh my god, I thought something was going to shoot out of you” (sorry for the visual) LOL :))

Okay, so I was being a total overachiever and went for high intensity. OUCH. It was almost 30 minutes of pure sweat-fest. The inline skating (aka jump squats) *are* the devil. It's so funny how they sneak those in and you're all like, 'wow, this is cool!', but by the 4th one your legs are trembling and you're cussing (or grunting).

I am SO looking forward to tomorrow!! Cannot wait!

Sports bra… I need one too. I thought I could wing it with a tight tank top holding them up but that was no good…

Day one is always the easiest! I usually push myself too hard because I like to feel the burn. Unfortunately this leads to me being unable to move the remainder of the week!

Inline skating doesn't seem to work without the wii balance board either. Kudos to whoever can complete that exercise without it!

I'm forcing myself to take things slow.

    We can do this people!

Inline skating is alot tougher without the BB. But your char does a really cool flip if you time the jump to right at the tippy top edge of the ramp. I was so stoked the first time I saw it. It really is the little things like that that make me push myself a bit harder.

Jen,When I do the inline skating exercise, I don't use the Wii Balance Board
:) I don't think you'd want to use it because you're jumping and you're not
supposed to jump on the board.

When you use the balance board, you lift your leg up, no jumping. ;o)

lol..I don't mind the regular squats, it's the one min squat that kills me…then the next excercise is the skating…WHAT?????

Getting all stinky and sweaty is good!

  • dawnembracingtheordinary

you actually don't have to jump at all..just go from squat to standing quickly…Jumping is hard on my legs…so I avoid it.

This was the first workout I have done on the EA active. I think I am going to like it! I especially enjoyed watching my 2 year old do the exercises with me.

I thought for sure I was the only one who was dying as a result of the skating. I hate it when my little woman skids around like she's gonna fall. But it does make me want to do it better the next time:)

I did my Day 1 of the Active tonight. I had read all day how it kicked everyone's butt, so since I was already kind of sore from trying it out Saturday night, I set it on easy. I'm glad I did that setting for tonight but I'm definitely ready to bump it up for medium tomorrow night. Maybe I'm in better shape than I thought, huh?!! My dh watched me do it and he may even start doing it, too!

I'm looking forward going through this with everyone!! And I'm going to combine Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred, starting tomorrow (the 1st)….anyone want to join me??! I'm going to kick some serious butt and get this weight off!!
