My 5K and a New Fitness Challenge!

November 9th, 2009 | Comments | Posted in Shrink-a-versary Extravaganza | by april

Today, instead of True Confessions, we’re going to talk about how our 5K’s went this weekend!!  Right now, as you’re reading this, I’m probably headed back home to Virginia!  But on Saturday, I ran my Sisterhood Virtual EA SPORTS Active 5K with Christy and Amanda!

Christy plotted our course well in advance.  It was a good course!  We were pumped rocking our striped socks and our headbands! (Well, I wore my hat so that Amanda could wear a headband!)  We set a pace at a slow jog.  We joked and laughed and all was well.  Then came the monster of a hill.

I have asthma, and normally, it doesn’t really bother me, but part way up the hill my lungs said to me, “April, you either slow down, or I’m going to cause us problems.”  So, I said, “Lungs, I hear ya.  We’ll slow down.”  The feelings I was beginning to have was anger and frustration.  I really wanted to run the whole thing.

At the top of the hill, I started jogging again.  Then, a bit later, another hill.  I walked.  I was really beginning to feel disappointed in myself.  I was so far behind Christy and Amanda.  They were doing so well, and here I was dragging ass.

At the top of that hill, I started jogging again.  I was really ready to be pissed the rest of the day, and I don’t know exactly what told me to look left, but I did, and I could see Christy’s property off in the distance.  I knew I was getting close.  I turned a corner and there was Christy and Amanda!  They were in the home stretch!  I really wanted to finish with them!

So, I picked up my pace and sprinted for as long as I could.  Then, I slowed for a bit and picked up the pace again.  I finished my 5K only around 30 seconds behind them.  No, I didn’t run the whole thing like I had wanted to, but I made up for the parts that I walked.  Mostly.  I didn’t let it get the better of me.  And I’m pretty damn proud of that! (PS. Christy and Amanda have the pics!)

So, talk to me, Goose!  How’d you do on your 5K? Go blog all about it, and come back here and leave your link. All of your Sisters (and Brothers) would love to read about your experience! Was it your first 5K? Did you struggle? Triumph? How did you feel when you were done? Did you take pictures? You did, right? POST THEM!!

Aaaaaaaaand are you ready for it?!   We’re starting a new fitness challenge today!!

Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans

That’s right, in our newest challenge we’re logging in our miles!  Starting TODAY, whether you run or walk, keep track of how many miles you go and on Weigh-In Wednesdays blog about how many miles you did, then leave us a link to your post in the comments of the Weigh-in post!  (If you’re participating in the Shrink-a-Versary challenge as well, you can combine your miles post and your weigh in post!)  If you use a pedometer, and your pedometer converts your steps to miles or you have a way to convert your steps to miles, then do it!

This challenge will run until the end of our Shrink-a-Versary Extravaganza Challenge, December 16th, so let’s see which Sister, or Brother, can log the most miles! Let’s get to Globetrotting!!

Don’t forget to grab a button to add to the sidebar of your blog! There are also milestones stamps, so you can stamp your sidebar “passport” every time you hit a new “mile” stone! We’ll be adding more distances in the coming days, so don’t worry.

However, you do it, do it!  Join us this fitness challenge!  It’s going to be fun!  Now, who’s in?!

p.s. If  you’re not a member of the ‘hood, you’re totally missing out. Just sayin’.
