  • One of the best holiday traditions in my family revolves around Christmas cookies. Yes, I know. Shrinking jeans don't go well with cookies. But it's a good one. Every year on the weekend before Chrsitmas I get together with my mom and two aunts and we make cut out Christmas cookies. I'm talking dozens (this year it was 37 dozen - 444 cookies). We've got this assembly line in place. Each of us has our own duties and even though we're making that many cookies, it goes by quickly. And although the cookies are delicious, it's more about spending that afternoon together. I've been doing it since I was 7, so lots of memories have been formed.
  • BrookeF
    wow - that's a lot of cookies!

One of my favorites is putting my dad's ornament on my tree. It's always the first to go on and I'm always the one to put it there. He's been dead for 32 years now, but somehow this simple tradition seems to make him feel closer.
  • BrookeF
how sweet. so he's always there...

We have so many holiday traditions but almost all of them fall on Christmas eve, from making cookies for santa to watching A Christmas Story. To opening an "early present" of Pj's right before bed. Oh I love Christmas Eve almost more than Christmas. :)
  • BrookeF
me too :) Christmas Eve is full of excitement and anticipation. By the afternoon on Christmas you're headed for the downhill slump. and the steaks are really good ;)

As a kid, we always had stockings. With an orange and a penny or two in the bottom. And chocolate. That's what we ate for breakfast (minus the penny) on Christmas morning while opening presents. I miss that...

  • We always got oranges and shelled nuts in our stockings, too!
  • BrookeF
hopefully my commenting on traditions doesn't mess up the giveaway. we use to get treat bags with a candy bar and an apple or an orange after Christmas service - we would get so excited over something so simple!
  • It doesn't mess things up, Brooke!! Comment away :)
