*Updated* Eat Smart Kitchen Scale + Giveaway!

December 12th, 2009 | Comments | Posted in Featured, Giveaways, Melissa, Product Reviews | by Lissa

*****The winner of the Eat Smart Precision Pro Kitchen Scale is MommyP!! Please email Melissa at melissa @ shrinkingjeans dot net with your mailing info! Congratulations.*****

Confession:  I have never owned a kitchen scale, until a few weeks ago. I have always *thought* about getting one, but just never committed to it! I received the Eat Smart Precision Pro Kitchen Scale to review and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to weigh my food!

What I like about the scale:

It’s simple and small. I love that it doesn’t take up much space or require a degree in rocket science to figure out how to use it.

It seems very accurate… I tested out all kinds of things and it was within a half of one ounce every time!

The display has large numbers that are easy to read.

A calorie factor booklet is also included. What is a calorie factor, you ask? It’s simply a number, calculated using USDA data that represents the amount of calories per gram of food. Weigh your food, multiply it by the calorie factor, and voila! Total calories!

What I don’t like about the scale:

Really, I have nothing bad to say about it! I don’t have anything to compare it to, but seems to me that it serves it’s purpose well!

Guess what? One lucky reader will receive an Eat Smart kitchen scale too! Simply leave a comment below and let us know how you practice portion control (or if you don’t)!

  • I have just recommitted to portion control. Right now I am just using measuring cups where I can. Obviously for meat that doesn't work. LOL Also if the package says 1 serving = whatever, I just eat the one serving.

I was thinking of getting a scale. I have a tough time with portion size. What I have been doing is switching up to a smaller plate. It seems to be working. I would love to win the scale. Please pick me. Thanks

i rely on the packaging telling me how many items are in a serving. non packaged food is nearly impossible for me.

  • I portion control everything so that I can track my calories. My problem is that I currently have the cheapest Walmart scale and I often wonder how accurate it is.

I have really become a portion control "slacker" - It is one of my biggest weaknesses! I love how easy this scale looks and it would be another step in the right direction for me.

  • I like premeasured portions so I tend to package my snacks ahead of time.

I have been contemplating a scale for about three months now. :)
I exercise portion control by using a smaller plate and planning my meals ahead of time.

I've wanted a scale for a long time. Portion control...no meat serving bigger than the palm of my hand and no vergetable serving smaller than the palm of my hand.

we have a cheap scale too and this sounds like it would be really cool to have. I have been really trying to be aware of how much i am eating and to stop eating when I am feeling full.

Oooh Awesome! I too, for a long time, have been thinking about investing in a better food scale. I have a real cheapy from walmart, just one of those spring loaded jobbies. I think i would probably use a scale more if i know it was more accurate and was a little larger. The one I have is so tiny.
  • I exercise portion control by planning my meals ahead of time- I make my lunch the night before, when I go out for dinner I decide before even getting my meal that I'll only eat half of it, and I make a point of eating whole, REAL foods (not processed) so that portion sizing doesn't matter quite so much ;)

Great giveaway! I don't have a kitchen scale but keep thinking that it would be lots of fun to have one. Super useful piece of equipment.
