Sneaking in exercise

[ 12 ] 12/11/2009 |

Fitness?

Me??

Ha, I laugh at those two word together. HA.

As most parents know or remember, having a newborn in the house leaves little to no time for any “mommy” time. I’m lucky to get a shower these days, let alone go to a gym or workout with a planned routine.  My flabby post-baby body is screaming for me to get moving, lifts weights and simply, just “move”. Time and the lack there of is probably the number one excuse that people give for not exercising, right?

Although I don’t have any set routine for firming up or getting my heart a pumpin’, I still am trying to use those few minutes with and without my baby to do something…

That’s the main part, let me repeat, “just do something, anything to get your body in motion”

If you are on twitter during The Biggest Loser, you know how easy it can be to get moving with limited time. She commands tweets you  a mini work out for you to do during commercials. Have you seen the tweets? If not, you should follow along! They are quick and effective. The idea to move on commercials is brilliant!

Those small amounts of time moving your body add up.  A few short mini workouts during the day are far better than nothing, so are you ready to start trying? As of lately I have a cranky baby at night and my thighs are becoming thankful. You see, I take that time bouncing her to do squats.  Other times I’m running in place for 15 minutes.

Are you getting the point? Take the time doing everyday things and squeeze some kind of extra activity in. Multi-tasking that really is good for the soul.  Brushing your teeth? Do calf raises. Stay on your toes and raise your heels off the floor. Those two minute at the sink can add up!

While washing dishes I do side kicks and raises. Do you do your laundry down stairs or have to run it up stairs? Think about taking a few extra trips up and down! Your butt will love it, promise. (not to mention your heart rate can pick up a bit too)

There are endless possibilities to help you burn off calories, tone your body and get your healthy heart pumping.  Think about your routine, daily projects and try to add more activity in little ways. Are you already doing this? Well heck, share your secrets and keep moving!

CE, you are an inspiration to new moms everywhere! I wish I would have used some of these tips almost 6 years ago when my little guy was born….maybe if I would have I wouldn't STILL be 45 pounds overweight! Great job on squeezing workouts however you can!

Great post! I struggled with post baby working out. Uh, I still do. With a toddler!
When my guy was little, I'd throw him in the backpack and go on a walk – weather and daylight permitting. He was a crabby baby and the fresh air was good for both of us.
