Virtual Team In Training

****Edited to announce that the fundraising total has been lowered from $3500 to $2900!!!****

It’s officially official! Starting January 30th, 2010, the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans will be training for the San Diego Rock ‘n Roll 1/2  Marathon on June 6, 2010!

We’ve decided to go the Virtual Team In Training (VTNT) route for so many reasons. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is an amazing organization, for one. As a team, we will receive training online from experienced coaches and experts, and will have the inspiration of patient-heroes cheering us on every step of the way. As long as you meet your fundraising goal, your airfare, hotel, and race registration expenses will also be covered by LLS. VTNT will also provide each and every one of the team members with their very own fundraising web-site, and the tools needed to meet our goals!

I know so many of you are nervous about the fundraising aspect of this venture, and we completely understand. We’re a little nervous too, but the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans is going to work hard to secure corporate sponsorships for our team! What does that mean for you? Well, every corporate sponsorship will be divided up evenly between each team member, so it has the possibility of  lightening the individual fundraising load. Of course, there is no guarantee that we’ll be able to get corporate sponsorships, so you must go into this with the intent of raising $3,500 on your own. The information packet, along with the registration packet will provide you with more in depth information regarding your commitment to fundraise.

And to all your corporate-type people out there, if you are interested in sponsoring our team, you can contact Christy (christy at shrinkingjeans dot net) for more information! We’ll be posting more about sponsorships and what they mean for your company, very soon!

To get the registration ball rolling, you’ll need to contact Kirsten (who is coordinating with TNT on behalf of the Sisterhood) for a registration packet. There is a $50 registration fee you’ll need to send in with your form, and it will be applied directly to your fundraising goal!

If you have any questions, you can leave a comment on this post, or start a discussion on the TNT page at the ‘hood! What? You haven’t already joined the Sisterhood TNT Group at the ‘hood? Well please run on over there now! That’s where we’ll be doing most of our planning and training, so you won’t want to miss a thing.

I was talking to my husband about this and pulled the post up for him to read and he reminded me that we are going to me in TN at the time. It's something that's been planned out since May of this year...actually, we were supposed to go in late August but it was moved to May. I totally forgot about the trip.
  • Darn!!!!

Wow... San Diego - That is so close for me! Maybe I should seriously consider? I have never run more than a 5K and that has been awhile, but I love the LLS - I work as an oncology nurse and have many, many patients to run for. The thought of committing to this is a bit scary, but its a great time to train in AZ. For those of you who have done races and 1/2 marathons, do think this is a "do-able" amount of time to train?
  • I've never run more than 5 miles, and that was only once! I think 6 months (plus) is really more than enough time to train for a 1/2 marathon! You should totally join us!!!

The fact that you work as on oncology nurse would make it SO much more meaningful for you, too!!!
  • I did one w/TNT in '07, never ran a day in my life, and they set me up on a 17-week training program. I ended up moving and not training during a bunch of it, but flew back for the 1/2 marathon. Walked most of it, finished in 3:39... so worth it and so do-able!!!!!!!!

I highly encourage you to seriously consider joining us! It was *so rewarding*.

  • Sarah, if driving is an option for you, get in touch with Kirsten!! There are different guidelines for peeps who might be considered local!

    WOOT, I'm there!
  • I can try to train with you.... but I won't be able to fundraise etc. I know that I will be able to donate though...
  • WOOT!!! See y'all in San Diego!

I can't wait to meet all of you awesome women and men! SO EXCITED!
