Fitness Friday::Favorite Workouts

[ 19 ] 02/26/2010 |

We are getting ready to embark on another odyssey of the 30 Day Shred here at the Sisterhood. I do love me some Shred, but I will be sitting this one out, since it’s not really compatible with my herniated disc problems! I thought it would be fun to write about some of my other favorite fitness activities!

Hiking. Love, love, LOVE hiking. There is nothing that compares to being out, surrounded by all of nature’s glory. Honestly, I haven’t really hiked since moving to North Dakota. I dream about it – does that count? And when I do get back to the mountains, I plan on making it a hobby. Go here to get information on trails in your area.

Racquetball. I may not really know the rules or be the most technically-efficient player, but my husband and I are pretty evenly-matched and we are extremely competitive. I have some mad flying-through-the-air jumping skills, I must say. Beware -racquetball can lead to some painful injuries. I may or may not have accidentally made my husband drop to the floor after hitting him in THAT place. Oops.

Death by Racquetball!

Turbo Jam Cardio Party. Think dancing mixed with kickboxing. You can do it at home and it’s a hell of a workout! I don’t know that I can do the whole workout without stopping to catch my breath!

Just Dance for Wii. So fun! Great to do with a friend or the kids! I totally broke a sweat while playing this, although I don’t know if it was from working out or laughing so hard at my horrible dance skills.

Walks (with a friend or my husband!). It is so much more fun to have company when I am out exercising. It makes the time pass so much more quickly and takes my mind off the fact that I am working out. I have problems staying motivated when I have to use a treadmill or do more than a few miles by myself, having a buddy to chat with makes exercise so much more enjoyable.

What are some of your favorite ways to burn those pesky calories??

I favor my wii fitness personally. EA Sports Active, The Biggest Loser, Wii Fit Plus

hiking is probably my favorite form of exercise. depending on the length of the hike and elevation change – its possible to burn a whole day's worth of calories in one hike.

everything else i do is very standard and not exciting, although i do love running and cycling (outside)

My current favorite is running. I burn a crazy insane amount of calories doing it, and it's getting easier! I also love Turbo Jam Cardio Party – SPEED BAGS ROCK! I'm always so sore the next day. And of course, EA SPORTS Active More Workouts is my very own personal trainer. I love him :P

Right now I am LOVING the Enviga series of workouts from Exercise TV. I think you have to pay for them to download from the website, but I am trying some of them for free On Demand, and I LOVE them. They are tough for me, and I sweat and huff and puff and feel like I won't make it, and then at the end I feel AMAZING. Plus, they are only a half hour, which is perfect since my ten month old daughter doesn't really give me much more time than that during the day.

I heart pilates and yoga, but am making friends with running. I agree with Christie, the calorie burn is worth the temporary discomfort…plus, once you hit that sweet spot where you're in the zone and get that high? Awesome!
I love to dance too. I miss going out like I did with my girlfriends in college. We'd come home a sweaty mess. That HAD to be a good workout!

I love to walk. It's been hard to find a park I feel safe at but I'm still trying. I brought I dance dvd a few weeks ago and LOVE it. I also like the walk away the pounds series.

I love to ride bikes but right now I don't have one. I plan to get one when/if the weather ever clears up enough so that I can actually ride. Of course, I will need to teach TOK how to ride so we can go together!
I also love working out with my Wii!! Wii More Active, Jillian Micheals, WiiFit Plus!! Any of them will make my heart pump faster and that is the point, right?!!

I love the EAS Active, especially the More Workouts, but having just done the first 30 Day Shred workout, I love how encouraging she is – something the EAS Active is missing since it's a computer and not a live person.

I really like the EAS active.

here is to hoping I can say the shred!

Running, Walking, and some cardio kickboxing that I found online. Completely awesome!

I love that you love raquetball! I've played once, with my brother, and he got me in the ear. I can still feel it.

I like to hike as well — with Harry turning 3 late this summer, we may finally start to be able to do this as a family again. But on my own, I love to walk. I'm definitely an outside exercise kind of girl. My walks are hard and sweaty (for me), but given that my legs are only two feet long, my time always lags. Still, it's something that I enjoy!
