Fitness Friday – Map it out!

[ 9 ] 03/26/2010 |

Time is what we want most, but… what we use worst. ~William Penn

I’m going to be honest with you.  I’m struggling a little bit right now.  I’m having a hard time figuring out when I’m going to do the stuff that I “need” to do during the day.  It seems like everything is equally important and I’m not sure what to cut out.

Time management has never been my strong suit.  During 6th grade, I got 53 tardy slips in one year.  FIFTY THREE!! I just never managed to be where I was supposed to be or do what I was supposed to do.

This has followed me into adulthood.  (Anyone notice how late this post is?) I define procrastination.  I have my to-do lists, but keeping up on Twitter and Facebook is more important, right?  I’m sure I’ll have time later.  Right?

I know.  I’m delusional.

So, while I was trolling around the internet getting totally distracted from what I needed to do studying up on time management skills, I came across this time map, courtesy of organizational guru Julie Morgenstern.

My first reaction? This won’t work for me because I’m not a Work At Home Mom. And then I realized that while I may not get PAID for my work, I am most definitely a Work At Home Mom.

And one of my jobs? Exercising. As “not fun” as that sounds, it is my job to take care of this body. If I don’t take the time (there’s no such thing as MAKE the time) to take care of my body, it’s going to lead to a world of hurt later.

So, armed with my new found insight, I am going to be working on my time map this weekend. I need to figure out how I’m going to fit this all in, but I know that I have to do it. This is the life I’ve chosen for myself.

I need to start living it.

Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresea, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein. ~Life’s Little Instruction Book, compiled by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

That calendar is such a neat tool! I hope it helps you to get things done… sometimes it feels like there isn't enough time, even just to BREATHE.

But… I love (and totally agree with) this quote “Don’t say you don’t have enough time. I think that's awesome and I'm going to copy it down on my list of quotes (yes, I keep a list of quotes lol).

I am also struggling right now with what I should be doing and what I am doing. I haven't exercised since Monday as I have lost my motivation right now, it is now TOM and my sister had her second little girl on Wednesday morning and by midnight that night she was admitted to the NICU, she has fluid in her lungs and not sure why yet. They think she will be fine but it will be a long haul. I feel very bad for my sister and her family and I am 150 miles away. I am totally stressing about this and very emotional and have lost my gumption. So I totally understand and appreciate this post. Maybe next week I could use a calendar like this too and get my life back it order. I will def. need to use some kind of calendar like this come summer when I have the school age kids home and any extra me time is gone. Thanks for listening, ladies.=)

Time management is difficult, but like anything else, doable. Organization is the key to empowerment. Take a deep breath, and jump in. Visualize success. Visualization works for so many things! Good luck.

I have totally had to do this! I am taking 5 classes in law school, training for a triathlon, have a 6 year old and and and…

If I didn't map out my days / weeks I would never be able to get anything done!

I love the color coding idea! However, this person (in the example above) gets up at 4:30 EVERY morning and goes to bed at 11pm? Yikes! I'm not sure I could ever drag my sorry butt out of bed that early! LOL

I've had to make a schedule too. i don't always stick to it like I should but I at least try.
