May is Sisterhood Running Month

Article by ChristyFollow me:

May is Sisterhood Running Month! Yeah, we just made that up, but it seemed like a really cool thing to do in light of the fact that Team Shrinking Jeans is closing in on the San Diego Rock N Roll 1/2 Marathon.

On June 6th, 15 of us will lace up our shoes and hit the road in San Diego to run with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training group. We want to celebrate our last full month of training by sharing all of the things we’ve learned about running with you. We’ve learned about training, shoes, stretching, injuries, nutrition, gear, and so much more. We’re doing this in hopes that we might inspire YOU to lace up your shoes and hit the road running.

Whether you’re a veteran runner or have never run a minute in your life, we challenge you to join us this month! On Monday, we’ll be highlighting different training programs to help you figure out where to start. From there, we’ll help guide you through all the ins and outs of running.

Stay tuned for a month of great information, awesome giveaways, and fantastic fun. We’ll bring you:

  • A “How-to” series on running
  • Sisterhood picks on running gear
  • Sports nutrition – how to eat to fuel your runs
  • Run to lose weight AND get fit
  • Running with kids
  • Training for your first race
  • Common running injuries and how to avoid them
  • and so much more!

National Run a Mile Days on May 6-8, and we want you to lace your shoes up and join in the fun! Stay tuned for more information.

Don’t forget to grab our super-cool badge :)

I'll be watching — especially the running with kids. I've started “running” (said tongue in cheek as I go my snail's pace.. but it IS technically a jog..) and I've got small kids. If there's a way I can combine the two? Shiny.

I will be watching. I would LOVE to be able to hop on the treadmill or go outside and be able to run… really run. Not walk with a few spurts of running along the way,

We all started out walking with a few spurts of running, Misty. I know it feels tedious, but you will get there if you keep it up!!!

I ran today! Granted, it was only 2 miles, but I started the month out on a good note :)

Great job, Bari!! Two miles is awesome! Don't sell yourself short :)

I'm hoping to get out and do some running this weekend! I had to push my long run (10 miles) until Monday because we're going on a quick trip tonight.

Perfect timing. I'm starting my “official” training for my 1/2 marathon on Monday, May 3rd. Thanks for the article on getting the right shoes. I need to do that!

It sounds ludicrous but I'm interested. Many years ago it would have been a given. Now it's a much bigger challenge but I'll be watching and eventually testing the waters. I love the sisterhood because it reminds us to get going and do the things that we've always had simmering on the back burner. I may not run far but someday, I'll run again – that is in 21 days after I get this fast walking down as a habit.

I am so excited about this month and running with the Sisterhood!! I just celebrated my one year running anniversary so I'm excited to read more about running. You all always have the best information to share! Can't wait to run with my Sisters {and brothers too}.

I agree with Christy, running is running and you should definitely be proud of what you accomplish. I had never ran anywhere before and just celebrated my one year running anniversary. I am also a slow runner, but am getting faster the more I do it. Just don't give up and run at a pace that works for you, not anybody else. You will find your pace improving, I promise!!

Christy is right – I remember thinking “i have to run for 90 seconds without stopping???”

6 months later i ran 2 hours 44 minutes and 52 seconds without stopping

I saw a quote somewhere that said that if it bugs you when someone calls you a “jogger,” you are a runner, regardless of pace. Not sure how small your small kids are, but perhaps they could ride trikes or scooters with you while you run? (I have yet to convince mine to do that with me, though.)

Thanks a landlord it! I acquired yet some insight. Life is so colorful, we should be able to live in, such as Korea and honor the planet. Human life is like rivers, slowly flowing, flowing rivers, flowing through the snow, flows through the prairie and ultimately into the sea, return to the embrace of nature, start a new reincarnation. Allow us to feel the meaning of life will come only to those you have those memories http://www.cheap-nikeshox.com/nike-shox-TL1.html
