True Confessions from the Road | The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans LLC

My, oh my. Sit back and get cozy with a cup of coffee or tea, because this is going to be riveting. Trust.

I have been on the road since June 2nd. First I drove to Houston, then I flew to San Diego and ran in the San Diego 1/2 marathon with Team Shrinking Jeans for Team in Training, then I flew back to Houston and stayed for a few days, and on Saturday we set out on a 1,300 mile road trip to Miami, Florida. We arrived on Monday night, just in time for dinner. Needless to say, I haven’t had a home-cooked meal since I departed home.

The week leading up to the 1/2 marathon, it was my job to prepare my body for the race by fueling up with carbs. Carb loading with carbs, carbs, lots of carbs. All caution was thrown to the wind. All of it. I may have also thrown my brain in the wind, too. And my common sense.

After the race, all I could think about was food. Food, glorious food. A few hours after the race, I ate this (food porn alert!):

Yes, it was as good as it looks. Maybe better. And yes, it was as big as it looks. Maybe bigger. (That’s Heather’s cleavage in the background!) And I had several, okay a lot of adult beverages to celebrate. It was awesome. That burger up there, it didn’t quench my hunger. Not even close. Over the next several days, I gorged some more. While Melissa was ordering petite salads, I was ordering slices of pizza and dessert. Seriously. I felt like Hungry had taken over Christy. I know you’re thinking that it’s okay to eat more after a race, and yes, that’s true. Your body needs carbs and protein to recover from a long run, but you have to stop at some point, or risk turning into something that resembles the Michelin man. Which is what’s happening to me.

Goodness. I still have lots to confess, and this is ridiculously long already. I’m resorting to bullet points.

  • Barbecue. Lots of it.
  • Fried Shrimp. Fried rice. French Fries. I haven’t eaten this much fried stuff in forever.
  • Pizza and beer.
  • Cheese, lots of delicious, stinky, ooey-gooey, cheese. Melted, cold, sprinkled, a la carte. You name it.
  • Bugles.
  • Car

Last night we arrived in Miami, and we’ll be here until Friday. I’m hoping to lace up my running shoes tomorrow, for the first time in over a week, so hopefully that will start me on the road to recovery. Because seriously? I need an intervention.

Okay, now that I’ve gotten all that off my chest, it’s your turn! Tell us all your dirty secrets. Blog about it, or just leave them here in the comments section. There’s no judging here, we promise!
