Taste of Home Comfort Food Diet Cookbook- Review + Giveaway (Updated)

[ 38 ] 01/22/2011 |

Winner winner!  DebraCC, you are the lucky winner of this cookbook.  Please email your address to lisa@shrinkingjeans.net- congrats!!!!

One of my favorite cookbook publishers is has come out with a new cookbook – the Taste of Home Comfort Food Diet Cookbook.

I love opening a new cookbook, perusing the recipes and planning out my menu of *what I’m going to cook next*.  This time was no different.

Things I love about this cookbook:

  • Lots and lots of recipes- 416 to be exact.
  • Lots and lots of pictures- 357 to be exact.  I love to get a peak at what I am making.  Sometimes, it’s the picture alone that will entice me to make a particular recipe and sometimes, I just want to make sure that as I cook, it looks *right*, lol.
  • Nutrition facts for every single recipe.  In order to have a grip on my weight loss, I have to know the facts about what I am eating.  I think every cookbook should include nutritional information.  It can be quite eye-opening.
  • Easy to follow directions.  You’re not going to find *long as your arm* directions for these recipes.  It’s pretty straightforward stuff, which I like.
  • Easy ingredients list.  The same goes for the ingredients.  Granted, I haven’t looked at EVERY recipe in the cookbook, but the ones I have looked at have your typical, pantry items.  Nothing weird and out of the ordinary.
  • Handy clip-out calorie chart.  Craving a snack of some sort?  This chart gives you a quick glance at the calorie count of typical snacks.
  • Free magazine subscription to Healthy Cooking magazine.  This is one of my all-time favorite cooking magazines and I’ve had a subscription to it for several years now.  This cookbook includes a subscription card for one year to the magazine.  SCORE!
  • Free access to the Comfort Food Diet Cookbook website, featuring additional recipes, weight loss tools and more.

So here’s the deal…..I have ONE cookbook to giveaway to ONE of you lucky winners!!!!

I’m not entering because I just got the same cookbook last week from the book man at school. I love it too. I think I’ve already made several things from it. Whoever wins this is going to love it.

I SOOO want this! I need some good recipes. I tweeted about this on Twitter : @misslofly1

My recipes is a little different. My family has been making this for years from an old cookbook, so the recipe I found online is a little different. The changes that I’ve made are: use ground turkey instead of beef, and use lettuce to make lettuce wraps out of the meat mixture. I also use Sriracha sauce as a condiment (spicy!). It comes out to 3PP per serving!

What a great looking cookbook with such a huge number of recipes! I’d love to have this one. I love making salads of all sorts. My favorite comes from cooking light and has white beans, artichokes and green peppers over mesclun. One my favorite dinners that is easy and pretty healthy is oven-fried chicken, mashed potatoes and corn. The chicken is really easy. Crush up a sheath of Ritz crackers in a gallon size ziplock baggie with some thyme, basil, salt, pepper to taste. In a shallow bowl mix one egg and about 2 Tbsp of milk. Skin your chicken (I always buy chicken thighs w/skin on) and dip in egg mixture and then coat with the cracker crumbs. Place on a baking pan. Bake for 45 minutes (or so – I always wing time and then take the chickie’s temperature) at 375 degrees. Yummy!

    I “liked” you on facebook.

I’ve been looking at the ads for this cookbook and it sounds great. Sounds even better to hear that people who already own it are using it and like it.

As far as a recipe…I like to make scrambled eggs with different things in them. One of my favorites it to take fresh spinach with olive oil and fresh garlic in the skillet until cooked and then add your raw egg mixture and milk until done. I also sprinkle with pepper and cheddar cheese. My four kids ask for this every weekend!

Oh my goodness, this is so exciting! I make healthy recipes all the time (I have a blog devoted to it), but this week’s favorite is a meat and potatoes skillet meal (http://www.delightfulcountrycookin.com/2011/01/meat-n-potatoes-skillet-meal.html). What’s not to love about it? Under 500 calories, tastes amazing, servings are so big I can’t even finish one, and there’s only one dish to clean up when it’s all said and done. Yum!

I made healthy meals all the time for my cooking blog, but this week’s favorite is definitely my meat and potatoes skillet meal! With less than 500 calories, servings so big that I can’t even finish one, great flavor, and only one dish to clean, what’s not to love? I would love to have this cookbook as part of my collection, and it’s been a long time since I treated myself to a new one. My favoriate healthy dish to make is roasted veggies in the oven, whatever I’ve got…as long as it includes eggplant, zucchini, peppers and onions. Yesterday I added carrots and a can of diced tomato over the top! It’s a great healthy dish served with pasta, or with an omelet, a grilled sandwich. Well, you get the idea.
