Wednesday Check-In: The Power of One

[ 111 ] 01/05/2011 |

We are already a full half of a week into 2011, do you feel more powerful yet? Have you unleashed the “Power of One?” If not, we’ll get you there. It’s still early.

Meantime, it is Wednesday and it is time to check in, so off you go! Head over to the scale, weigh-in and report back on the little formy below!

Wow, we’ve had a lot of new faces around here, hurrah! This month is exciting because for this month only, we are  bringing back the Monthly Project as a weekly project instead! Each Monday, we will have a project that will enable you to focus on your mind on this journey, which in turn will help you in the long road with the body part of this journey.

Because if you’re head’s not in it, you’re just not going to be as successful. It starts up here (this is me pointing to head.)

We issued our first project on Monday and it is to have your “future 2012 self” write a letter to your current self, telling your current self what all you did in 2011. This gets interesting because next year (you’ll stick around for this, right?) you’ll look back on the letter and see how you did. We did one last year, so all the people who were here with us last year are getting to do that now! It’s pretty freakin cool. You can read about the project here and go do it!

So, your tasks for today are:

  • Go step on your scale and look at the number.
  • Next, go blog about it and link up below.
  • And fill in the weigh-in form below with your weight! We’ll keep track of everything and announce our top shrinkers each week!
  • Do the Monday project (free your mind, free your body!) This one you have until Friday to do.

Lots to do, but TOTALLY WORTH IT!

Good morning sisters! I hope everyone had a great week.
The weighing is done for the week.
I’m up 1 pound to 185.5. A few days of eating my Mom’s pecan pie and chicken and dumplings and lounging on my butt will do that.

I weigh first thing in the morning after the potty break completely naked.
    It’s an obsession… I hate it.

  • Chris

I like to weigh in first thing in the am w no clothes. That way I’m comparing the same situation each time. I managed to stay the same this week even with lots of New Years Eve weekend events.

  • http://www.traveling-well.com Karena @ Traveling Well

This has been a hard, hard week for me. I can’t even post on my blog about it, because at the moment I have NO PRIVACY. My MIL has been staying with us for a month, and there are simply no boundaries. No privacy. No private conversations with my husband. No disciplining children without an audience. No choosing to have an apple for a snack without a conversation about my weight. My weight, the size of my jeans, my bra-size, for cripes’ sake, are all perfectly acceptable conversation points.

The first few weeks I held up pretty well. But now as we’re winding down, I’m faltering. 8 days to go. 8 days… Someone tell me I can survive this, please?

I’m finding that I am the poster girl for emotional eating. I don’t feel comfortable arguing with a 70 year old woman and telling her to back off, so I nurse the bruised ego with Almond M&Ms. I can’t have a good scream or a good cry because I am never alone, so I rip the end off a pretzel stick like I was going for its jugular.

Christie O. put my whole problem in the proverbial nutshell when she said “Because if you’re head’s not in it, you’re just not going to be as successful.” My head has NOT been in it this week, I’m afraid. I’m battling, but I’m not winning. My head has been in surviving this visit with family relations still in tact. But it has not been in the weight loss game.

I’m not sure what this next week holds. Probably more of the same, although I’m going to do my best to save it. Sorry for the ramble. I had to spill it somewhere.

    • Anonymous

Don’t be sorry. I hope the next 8 days goes quickly for you and remember you can get your head in the game as soon as she leaves. Good luck

    • http://www.babytealeaves.blogspot.com Christie O.

oh karena, you need calgon to take you away!!! i wish i could help you, but for now, give those pretzels hell. it’ll be over soon. sometimes your head CAN’T be in it because you are simply in survival mode, so cut yourself some slack, try to say “serenity now” and you’ll be back at it in exactly 8 days. (the husband owes you a spa day.) xoxoxoxoxoxox sending you big huge hugs! hang in there, sister!!

    • http://www.youravon.com/mdickey Margie D.

Hng in there, girl – it will end sometime. Go for a walk in a deserted place and you can scream your head off all you want. If you can’t get out of the house, then go to the bathroom and scream into a towel. Or just pretend you are telling her off and let the towel have it.
A big hug to you….be well.

    • http://plainolegrandmaislosingit.wordpress.com Adah

I feel your pain….my MIL spent 3 months with us a couple of years ago and I thought I was going to go insane for all the same reasons you are feeling right now. I finally went in my bedroom and shut the door, turned on the radio and took a shower. Between the water running and the radio blaring I found my quiet spot. It’s was the perfet place for me to lose it and no family relations were injuried in the process. It was a great crying spot and maybe even a little yelling went on. 8 Days will be over beofre you know it…hang in there!

      • http://www.traveling-well.com Karena @ Traveling Well

3 months?? You are a stronger woman than I am! I salute you!

    • http://www.traveling-well.com Karena @ Traveling Well

Thanks for the support, everyone. Have I mentioned how much I love having all of you? You keep me sane!

  • Shera

I weigh in with my pajamas on. I always weigh in before I eat in the morning.

  • Nancy

There is only one way to weigh in in my book. Naked, first thing in the morning after I pee. Hey, you asked!

    • http://himynameistheresa.com Theresa

Meeeeeeeeeeee too! 1) Same clothes (or no clothes) every day means I’m comparing apples to apples. 2) Who wants the extra weight of even a sock? ;)

  • http://twitter.com/madfatwoman Joanna

I am very surprised by my weight this morning. I have been sick since Sunday, and have done no physical activity – yet somehow, I’ve lost 4lbs.

It’s going to take some getting used to, weighing in on Wednesdays. I usually weigh in and blog my weight on Sundays – and will still do that. My Wednesday weigh-in will be a way to see how I’m doing in the middle of the week…LOL

I like to weigh-in first thing in the morning, and in my jammies – light jammies.

  • http://twitter.com/mymadakaja Tami

Naked sister, here! I think I kept up with my daily weight loss efforts when I was weighing daily, so I may go back to it!

  • Maria S

I weigh myself twice a day, in my nightshirt, but I don’t think about it being any more than a number, and information. I know I should weigh about 5 lbs more in the evening than the morning, and I get a sense of how my body works (some days I have more lbs than others, even though I’m losing weight overall). This way, when weigh-in day comes around, and I’ve “gained,” I can tell whether it’s water gain or just my body being weird, or if it’s something I need to get myself around. It took a long time to get to this point, and I don’t recommend it if you’re someone who’s going to worry about the number.

  • Anonymous

I am up 4 pounds, but I understand why. Still one more Christmas party to go on Sunday.
I weigh in the morning clothed or naked just depends on the day after using the toilet.

  • http://www.frugalfitandfabulous.blogspot.com Kathie R.

I like to weigh in first thing in the morning…nekkid, right after I pee. LOL!!! It’s always been the most accurate for me. I also weigh in only once a week. If i weigh in every day it starts to mess with my head. water fluctuates too much on a body day-to-day so why do that to myself? once a week works for me!

  • http://smartstrongsexy.blogspot.com Brooke F

i only weigh once a week, but since its on the bathroom scale at work, i have to be clothed. i take off extras though – like shoes and jackets.

  • Tracy C.

i don’t weigh everyday, but probably close to that, though… on the days that i decide to weigh, i weigh first thing in the morning with no clothes on after i have gone to bathroom…i figure, the lighter i am, the nicer the scale will be to me! :)

  • http://happyeverafter-carrie.blogspot.com/ Carrie

I am an everyday morning weigher, without clothes, right before jumping in the shower. Sometimes I weigh in at night too, just to see what the difference is between night at day, but I only really count the morning weight. It helps keep me on track.

  • http://twitter.com/Mondocurio Kelly Coursey

    Every morning, nekkid, before breakfast

  • http://scheherazade315.wordpress.com/ scheherazade315

I like to weigh in first thing in the morning, after I take care of nature’s call, without clothes on. I mostly weigh in on Wednesdays, although I sometimes sneak in another weigh in during the weekend.

  • Anonymous

I prefer to weigh in the morning completely nekkid but Weight Watchers doesn’t allow that. ;)

  • http://himynameistheresa.com Theresa

First thing in the morning, after the restroom, before coffee and a shower. :)

  • http://www.babytealeaves.blogspot.com Christie O.

oh yeah!! i guess that would make the meetings a little INTERESTING!! lmao.

    • http://www.babytealeaves.blogspot.com Christie O.

that was in response to colormeroo!!! lol

  • Niki P.

After two weeks of eating chocolate everyday I was nervous about weighing myself this a.m. Sure enough, gained a couple of pounds. *sigh* I’m an early morning weigher, first thing before breakfast.

  • Anonymous

I weigh in the morning naked…usually once a week. :)

  • http://violazuppa.wordpress.com ViolaZuppa

Down 2.7 lbs this week (I think, since I had an “incident” with my scale and had to start using a different one without comparing weights).
Count me as another naked, 1st thing in the am, post-potty weigh gal (for official purposes).

I have a tendency to weigh myself twice daily, morning and night, to see how my weight fluctuates and if I can make correlations. Blame it on me being an analytical chemist who has a obsession with collecting data.

    http://violazuppa.wordpress.com/2011/01/05/power-of-1-weigh-in-2/

  • Anonymous

I weigh most every morning, first thing, completely naked. I only count my “official” weight on Fridays though.

  • Meredith

I like to weigh in first thing in the morning … after I go to the bathroom, and nude. :)

  • http://fatosity.com Heather B.

I’ve lost 1.5 pounds this week (and I usually weigh on Thursday – so maybe a bit more by tomorrow:-). I couldn’t bear to confront my fat nakedness when I began losing weight 9 months ago, so I weigh in the am (post pee) in similar clothes. It’s a pain and I wish I had started in my birthday suit – but now I would drop a few pounds if I did, so I continue this way. I weighed every am for many months but have finally dropped down to a few times a week (with one “official” weigh-in).

  • Claudia

Good morning! My form of weighing myself is in the morning right after I go to the potty and completely naked. I feel I get a more accurate reading that way!

  • http://www.melrene.net Mel

I weigh in first thing in the morning, in my birthday suit! :)

  • http://twitter.com/jeanennep jeanennep

I weigh myself most mornings totally stripped down– I even take the ponytail out of my hair on weigh in days. Every little bit helps! ;)

Today I was down 4.3lbs!! That Christmas cookie weight must have really wanted to leave! http://65tolose.blogspot.com/2011/01/weigh-in-wednesday.html

  • Rhonda W.

I had a rough week with being sick with a bad cold, but I still managed to lose 2 lbs. I am thrilled to report this loss. Thanks to Nancy for giving me the motivation to start this challenge.

  • Jess

Good morning! I’m a post-morning “duty,” birthday-suit weigher, and it seems like many of us are that way too! However, if I know I’ve consistently made good, healthy decisions during the day (or really crappy ones), I find myself sneaking onto the scale more than once a day just to see what happens.

  • Anonymous

I weigh every morning, naked (cuz you can’t have an ounce of clothes throwing it off).

  • LuckyBamboo

I weigh once a week on Wednesday, after bathroom, and with workout clothes on (no shoes)

  • Virginia

I weigh in the morning when I get a chance. This morning I was up at 4am to nurse the baby then back to bed. Up to get the hubby and kids out the door by 7am and then I was able to weigh. Naked!

  • Anonymous

Good morning! I’m up 2.2 lbs. Ugh. I haven’t weighed this since July. :( I’m hoping this is the kick in the arse I need to stop the gaining.

I weigh myself first thing in the morning stark nekkid!

  • http://lauraslifeasawifeandmom.blogspot.com/ Laura P

Morning everyone! I’m down almost a pound this week. Yay for small successes. :)

My scale and I have a date in the morning. I would be lying if I said it wasn’t a daily thing.. Oh and nakey is my choice for weighing in.

  • http://www.youravon.com/mdickey Margie D.

I can’t remember what I weighed in as last
Wednesday…lol I think it was 163 and in that case I am down 2 pounds. I caught a tummy bug yesterday and am not feeling all that well so I am not right on plan but maybe it will help me lose even more… :D

I weigh-in first thing in the morning (most mornings) completely bare. After I pee. Before I do anything else!

I also tend to weigh myself through out the day, although no everyday. Not because I am obsessive, but because I am interested in seeing how my body reacts to the way I’m treating it. Water definitely makes a huge difference.

  • Chrissy C.

I weigh in everyday just after my shower, before breakfast with not more then socks, undies and bra on.

  • Anonymous

I’m up point 2 pounds this morning…I USUALLY only weigh in on Wednesday mornings after using the bathroom (both functions–tmi??) with only undies on!

  • http://twitter.com/foodformama Emily

I like to weigh in almost naked (underwear only!). I also like to weigh first thing in the morning. I only do it once a week because I am trying to not get TOO obsessed with the scale.

  • Anonymous

This has not been a good week for me pain-wise so I really wasn’t looking forward to checking-in to be honest.

As far as weighing in goes, I always weigh-in first thing in the am right before hopping in the shower.

  • Kati S.

Happy Weigh-In Wednesday! I like to weigh myself in the morning – no clothes. That way I have a constant with it. I weigh in daily usually – I try not to, but that is a failure every time.

  • Tracey

I’m pretty relaxed about weigh-ins. Well, I try to be! I wear everyday clothes, no shoes, and I try to do it in the morning before I’ve eaten anything. I’m really hoping to be the random winner… my scale officially bit it this week (and I don’t think banging it on the floor trying to get it to work did anything for it’s accuracy).

  • http://plainolegrandmaislosingit.wordpress.com Adah

First thing in the morning…having going pee and totally naked. I weigh every morning and sometimes right before I got to bed just to see where I am at.

  • Anonymous

Down .2…a loss is a loss.

I weigh myself in the morning nekkid, just before getting in the shower.

  • http://jiggles.airynothing.com/ barb_at_jiggles

You asked for it! First thing in the morning, nekkid, after peeing but before eating – I don’t want anything “extra” to get counted.

  • http://shepdogg.blogspot.com/ Tirah

I weight first thing in the morning after I’ve gone to the bathroom and when I’m completely naked. Aren’t you glad you asked ;)

  • Alicia M.

Good morning everyone!!! How I managed to lose 2 lbs is beyond me. I’m thinking I didn’t lose much and that last weigh in came just before “that time of the month for me” so the scale was reading a bit of extra weight. I did watch what I ate, but didn’t get any exercise in. Still trying to battle with my head about motivation.

As for my weigh-in…it’s always done naked, after I pee, blowing out ALL the extra air I might have hanging out in my lungs!! LOL I don’t get on the scale everyday…ok…I do. Never mind. I can’t lie. :):)

  • Anonymous

I weighed on Monday and was up .7 and was horrified, but I ran everyday this week, drank water like it was goin out of style and jumped back on the diet train (the one that ran de-railed and jumped the track in December!!!) and this morning I was down 1.3 from last week. WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

(just think of where I would be if I had NOT eaten spaghetti last night!!!)

  • http://www.thekrumwiedesix.blogspot.com/ Kristin__OneCrazyMamaof4

I weigh first thing in the morning after I go to the bathroom and brush my teeth but before I get dressed since I like to weigh without clothing… Hey.. I’m a big girl those pj pants of mine could weight tons :)

I ended up losing 1.2 lbs this week… which is good, but i need to work harder to meet my goal of 13 pounds for the challenge…

  • http://twitter.com/beachmonkeys beachmonkeys

Our whole family (hubby, wifey and daughter) are losing together as the Power of One..
We all like to weigh in downstairs in the kitchen (we keep scales under my hoosier cabinet for easy access and accountability) and we all weigh in almost daily.
I’ve lost 3.4lbs this week, so I’m pretty happy!

Its really help keep us honest and know if what we ate the day before doesnt work well for our body.
My daughter and I both have PCOS so carbs and high glycemic foods are the enemy for us but with my hubby’s love of sugar (addiction) we all keep to the following:
Tuna 1-2 times a week (or fish)
Red Meat (1 time a week)
    Chicken (anytime)
Pork (1-2 times a week, like chop, breakfast chop)
    Veggies (all the time)

We don’t feel deprived and during the holidays we did eat in moderation on sugar foods and all of us said how everything tasted EXTRA SWEET and made us SLUGGISH and TIRED, so we choose not to go back for seconds and thirds.

All of us lost weight after Christmas so we were very happy and did well.
This year we served on Christmas Day, Chili, filled with veggies and fiber.
Our traditional meal is more on Thanksgiving so thats a winner for us. AND on Christmas Eve at my parents we bring appetizers and still did well in moderation.

One thing I’m learning is I can still have my sweet (through cup of hot cocoa, one hersheys kiss, etc) in moderation to give me a sweet fix and not sabotage my diet.

    Sorry I said so much,
to answer the required question, we weigh in CLOTHED, No Shoes and In morning, daily.

    Hugs to all !!

I weigh in in my fabulous birthday suit (never goes out of style!) in the mornings on most days. I skip that ritual if the previous night involved a) Chinese food or b) more than one adult beverage!
Stayed the same this week but my BIG NSV was registering for the Biggest Loser competition about to start at my gym! I know I have the Sisterhood rooting for me!

  • Asoulm8

I weigh-in daily. I can’t seem to stop. I weigh-in first thing in the am & ‘ditto’ what Nancy said “Naked, first thing in the morning after I pee. Hey, you asked!”

  • Anonymous

I weigh in naked after I’ve gone to the bathroom and been out of bed for about 20ish minutes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/doubletkris Kristin Stone

Ouch, I gained! Perhaps it’s because I didn’t weigh in naked, first thing in the morning, after the first bathroom stop like I normally do. :-) Today, I forgot about check in and had a huge cup of tea and a bowl of oatmeal before stopping at the scale.

  • Anonymous

    Good afternoon!

I am a bit OCD about how I weigh myself – First thing in the morning after going to the bathroom and emptying every possible ounce of additional fluid, and completely naked with not a stitch of clothing or jewelry on. I am not an everyday weigher, but do “check in” a couple times a week. It drives me crazy having to go to my weigh-in at the doctor’s office fully clothed and around late morning when I have already eaten and drank!

  • Laura @SeeLauraRUn

Hi everyone! It’s been a really busy day. But I weigh in 1st thing in the morning, completely nakey, after I tinkle of course…hahaha don’t need that extra water to show up on the scale :) I believe that is your true weight. My sweetie and I disagree on this, he can do it his way, but I like mine better LOL!

I typically weigh in the morning after I’ve used the bathroom. I will usually weigh myself without clothes. I used to be a daily weigher, but I’m trying to break myself of that habit now.

I WI weekly at my WW meeting in as few seasonally-appropriate clothes as I can get away with in public. And I hold my breath on the scale. Anyone else do that? It’s idiotic, but I catch myself doing it *every* week.

I started out this challenge weighing in at night so I have been doing that to be consistent but I think I’m going to go ahead and weigh in in the morning next week because it’s too hard to wait till the evening and I’m afraid I’ll forget.

    Thanks for the great challenge!

I have discovered it doesn’t matter if I wear my nighty or have dressed for the day (as I have the same amount of layers on, I was curious one day and weighed two times). I weigh every day before and after exercise to see how much I lost while exercising. I always use my “after exercise” weight.

I like to weigh-in in the morning with as little clothing as possible. I usually do it daily…I just can’t cut down! For WW on Friday, I can’t do that (though I have seen some ladies who really strip down to about nothing–do not want to accidentally see that again!), but my clothing is only about 2 pounds different than my home weight.

I like to weigh myself first thing in the morning after tinkling. It’s the most accurate. Or it makes me the lightest. Whatever works.

I weigh myself in the evening, preferably before dinner, fully clothed (but no shoes). I don’t have the time or inclination to do it in the morning.

Morning all! I’m counting my morning scale weigh-in (no clothes !) for this challenge as opposed to my WW weigh-ins. I’ve been bad about going to WW at a consistent time of day so the weigh-in isn’t always consistent that way either! On my home scale, I’m down 4 lbs from last week. This is slightly elevated just because I was eating a lot of sodium-rich foods just before this started, so I’m thinking this is partially water weight. Looking forward to this challenge!

I like to weigh my self first thing out of bed (after the restroom), jammies on..trying to be consistent.

forgot to weigh-in yesterday, so this is a thursday weight-in :) Down 6 pounds to 161! (of course, i think most of that was bloat from insane holiday eating, and I never expect to lose that much in a week again, lol!)

I weigh-in first thing in the morning, nekkid, after peeing. Only once a week, because if I allow myselfmore I go a bit scale-bonkers and obsess.

I usually weigh in first thing in the morning in the buff. Gained over the holidays, I guess we get what we expect. ;)

Ugh! Up 0.2… working on finding my motivation!

First thing in the morning… totally undressed, after I pee. Like clockwork.

  • Bssuttongarner

I weigh in the morning without clothes, once a week.

I guess I’m not a very good navigator. I’m completely lost. I signed up for the challenge but do not see me among the 73. I did get an email last week to post my weight so I guess I’m in the challenge? I lost 4# last week and 2 1/2# this week so I’m doing okay. I’m also in my second week of C25k training. I can use all the support I can get, if only I knew how to get it. Are there any charts anywhere with challenger’s results?

      Hi Sheliah,
We don’t have a chart of all the challengers (but that’s an idea!). We just
check-in each week on the check-in post. There is a new one up today. If you
have a blog, you can share a link to your weigh-in post in the linky widget
      - that’s where everyone’s names/link show up on the post (if you don’t have
a blog, don’t worry, just leave a comment!), and you’ll want to fill in your
weigh-in info on the form within the post. Let me know if you have any
      questions!

I weigh in every morning first thing when I waked up! With my Jammies on but after I go pee!

I’m falling apart here. I gained another 4#. I am masking the pain with food and I need to find another outlet.

      Hi Sheila,

Do you have a blog that you want to share with us so that we can read about
your journey and offer support and encouragement? -Melissa
