The Gift of Health
As some of you already know, today just happens to be my birthday. We won’t discuss exactly which one, but let’s just say I’ve been celebrating the anniversary of my 29th birthday for a long time and leave it at that, m’kay?
Over the years, I’ve received a lot of really wonderful gifts from significant others, friends, etc. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by so many wonderful people in my life who love me and support me in all of my endeavors, even the ones that seem crazy to them. Having that kind of support means so very much.
Even with that having been said, I still think the best gift I’ve ever received is one that I actually gave to myself. It’s the gift of health.
I began my weight loss journey at well over 300 pounds. Even though I was fortunate enough to never have problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, etc., one can’t weigh that much without it taking on toll on one’s health. For me, it was things like a lack of energy, poor sleep, frequent illness, aching joints, etc. The list could go on and on.
Even though I still have a long way to go before reaching my ultimate goal weight, I’ve seen dramatic improvements in my overall health with the 70+ pounds I’ve lost already. I’m definitely sleeping better. My joints are aching a LOT less. I definitely have a lot more energy! Even though I didn’t have high blood pressure or cholesterol issues, both of those numbers have still dropped since losing the weight. With each pound I lose, I know that I’m one pound closer to not only my goal weight, but to a longer, healthier life.
I know most of you who are regulars here at the Sisterhood are already on your journey to better health and/or fitness. I also know there are a lot of lurkers out there who may not have taken that step yet. I know this because I was once one of those people. I lurked here at the Sisterhood for several weeks before finally summoning up the courage to leave my first comment because I was still trying to find that internal motivation to get myself started again on my own weight loss journey.
Even though it’s my birthday, I want to be the one giving a gift. I want to encourage you to take that first step toward giving yourself that same gift of health. Remember, you’re worth it and you definitely deserve it!
In order to help you get started, I’ve put together a prize package that will be given to one lucky winner. Here’s what’s up for grabs:
- A copy of the Biggest Loser 30-Day Jump Start book – I *love* this book. It’s filled not only with a lot of tasty recipes, but it also gives you a 30-day exercise routine that you can do right in your own home to get you started on a fitness regime.
- A copy of Leslie Sansone’s Walk It Off & Tone It Up DVD and fitness band – Leslie Sansone’s Walk Away the Pounds series was how I got started with my exercise routine back when I began this journey. It was something I could do at home, it wasn’t intimidating, and I still got in a great workout. In fact, I’m still doing her workouts! With this title, you can do anything from a 1-mile walk up to a 5-mile walk and anything in between.
- An Oiselle running tank top – This tank is a size large will fit a Misses size 8-12 per the Oiselle size chart. It’s 85% poly & 15% cotton.
