There’s a sort of “girl power” feeling in the music these days and I gotta tell ya, I LIKE IT!
We try to keep things positive here at the Sisterhood and we try to keep things REAL at the Sisterhood.
We all share way too much information on the internet about working out and weight-loss (pee pads, gut rot, that TOM just to name a few), and we even get down on ourselves from time to time for all the world to see.
It’s like real life, but online. That’s why I love it so much.
I’m about to cheese out on ya’ll but too bad.
There are two songs out right now that when they come on the radio, I think about my beautiful sisters here at the Sisterhood. YOU ALL! If you are a writer here or if you come here regularly (or even just lurk around), know that I’m listening to these songs thinking of YOU.
The first one is, Just the Way You Are by Bruno Mars. You know you’ve heard it. So he’s talking about his girlfriend, so what? I’m talking about all of mine!
Oh her eyes, her eyes
Make the stars look like they’re not shining
Her hair, her hair
Falls perfectly without her trying
She’s so beautiful
And I tell her every day
Yeah I know, I know
When I compliment her
She wont believe me
And its so, its so
Sad to think she don’t see what I see
But every time she asks me do I look okay
When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are
IT’S TRUE! You are! No matter where you are on the journey.
The other one is by Pink. Less Than Perfect (which I just found out is not “Less Than Perfect” at all, it’s “F*cking Perfect”, did you know that? Me neither.) So I hope you’ll click on this link and listen to these words because they’re also about you. Click HERE to watch Pink’s song ABOUT YOU!
If not, here’s the part that suits you best:
Pretty pretty please, don’t you ever ever feel.
Like you’re less than less than perfect.
Pretty pretty please, if you ever ever feel, like you’re nothing.
You are perfect to me!
You’re so mean, when you talk, about yourself you were wrong.
Change the voices, in your head, make them like you instead.
So complicated, look happy, you’ll make it!
Filled with so much hatred, such a tired game.
It’s enough! I’ve done all I can think of.
Chased down all my demons, i’ve seen you do the same.
I love these songs because they remind me to shut those mean voices up. They remind me that even though I’m not perfect, I am to someone. That I’m worth it. That we’re worth it.
So if you didn’t die of my cheesiness (I truly do think “Sisterhood” when I hear these songs), and you made it to the end of my post, what is YOUR theme song?
What song picks you up and sends you into extreme girl power?
