To celebrate her 2 Year Blogiversary, Ann gave away a copy of Jillian Michael’s Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism DVD. As it turns out, I was the winner! YAY!! Thank you so much, Ann, for this great DVD.

I’ll have to be honest with you. I’m not that big of a fan of Jillian. I just find her general demeanor to be quite annoying. It always seems to me that she tries a little bit too hard to have an “I’m a bad ass” swagger, if you know what I mean.

That being said, she provides an amazing workout every single time, without fail. This DVD is no different.

The workout is separated into a warmup, 7 different circuits, and then a cool down. You can do the whole series at once, which would take about an hour. Or, if you are pressed for time (like I usually am), you can pick and choose which circuits you do.

Every single one of the circuits will kick your backside into submission. She does NOT mess around when it comes to giving you a good workout. The circuits…each about 6 minutes long…range from kickboxing to plyometrics to standing ab work to calisthenics. You can really customize your workout however you want.

One of my pet peeves with DVDs that separate their workouts is that they don’t list what each of their circuits are. When I’m in a rush, I want to be able to look at the titles and know what each circuit is so I can choose what to do. Looking at a menu that says “Circuit 1, Circuit 2,…” does me no good. I want to know that Circuit 1 is kickboxing, etc.

So, when I saw that the circuits didn’t have a description, I got out a pen and went through each circuit and wrote them down. Now I have that inside the DVD case for easy reference.

  • Circuit 1 – Kickboxing
  • Circuit 2 – Plyometrics (or what I would consider plyometrics…lots of jumping type things)
  • Circuit 3 – Calisthenics
  • Circuit 4 – Back and Abs
  • Circuit 5 – Kickboxing (different moves)
  • Circuit 6 – Plyometrics (different jumpy type things)
  • Circuit 7 – I would call this a Standing Abs routine, a little lower intensity leading into the cool down routine

Overall, this was a great DVD. It’ll definitely get your blood pumping, no doubt. Just to wrap up, I’ll give you a list of the Pros and Cons as I see them.

Pros

  • Crazy, intense workout.
  • Customizable so you can decide how long you want to work out.
  • You have the option of listening to just music instead of her annoying voice instructions.
  • Did I mention how intense the workout was?

Cons

  • That voice.
  • Untitled…um…titles.
  • The jumping exercises might be a little hard if you have bad joints.
  • That voice.

That’s it! And guess what! We are giving one away. All you have to do is leave us a comment telling us what your favorite exercise DVD or TV show is. We’ll pick a winner next Saturday evening. Good luck!!

I’m really loving J.Michaels Yoga Meltdown. I don’t share your hatred of her voice, but it can be grating after a tiny while. But she knows how to deliver a kick ass workout and after a week of steady meltdowning, I’m watching my body transform. It really is amazing.

love my rodney yee “yoga for athletes” video

Right now I’m using the Tracy Anderson Metamorphosis DVD – they are also butt-kicking and a little crazy, but my body is quivering when I finish – everything gets worked out!!!

I hate her voice as well, so when I do the 30DS of hers, which I love, I put my ipod in and just watch.. I do this for most DVDs it seems…

I was hoping to win that, but if couldn’t I’m glad you did. Now, I just may have to go out and buy it. I think the shred is still my favorite workout video, but you sure are right about the voice.
p.s. Don’t enter me in the drawing.

I rarely do DVDs or watch exercise shows, but I did like the Jillian Michaels shred one, good workout.

OMG, someone who hates her voice as much as I do!! I have the 30 Day Shred, and I still haven’t found the strength to finish it all. They are awesome workouts though. I also love EA Sports Active on my Wii. The circuit training is awesome because it is different every day.

I’m not a huge Jillian fan either but I was never sure why. After reading your post I now know. It is that over the top type swagger – it just comes across as kind of phony and trying way to hard to be the biggest bad ass ever! That being said, I still have to say my favorite go-to exercise DVD is the Shred. Unfortunately my shoulder keeps me from doing it right now hopefully it won’t be long before working out again.

Right now my favorite DVD’s are the Bob Harper’s Inside Out Method set. The cardio workout is amazing!! I moved to that from the 30DS, because, hehe, I’m not a huge Jillian fan either. BUT, I have heard the Banish Fat dvd is a GREAT workout so I want to try it!
