Mantras in May, Strong

Hmmmm. Something new is going on here on at the Sisterhood! It’s Mantras in May.


Now to be honest, I had to google Mantra before I started writing this post. Yeah sure, I’ve heard the word before, I’ve even used the word. Several times. But I needed to google it anyway, because if I’m coming here to share some Mantras with you, I didn’t want to look like a total fool.

So what is a Mantra?


[man-truh, mahn-, muhn-] -noun

a sound, syllable, word, or group of words that is considered capable of “creating transformation”

You could also call it a motto.


[mot-oh] – noun

a maxim adopted as an expression of the guiding principle ofa person, organization, city, etc.

So this week our Sisterhood Mantra is going to be:

Say it with me! I am strong. I am strong. Repeat it over and over. Even if you don’t believe it. Write it on a sticky note and stick it on your mirror. Heck write it on lots of sticky notes and put those bad boys everywhere!

So do you feel strong now?

This week, I want you to remind yourself often that you are strong. And to prove it to yourself, I want  you to push yourself to be strong, to feel strong, to look strong. Run a little further than you plan. Lift a little more weight than you usually do. Do a few more reps of push-ups, squats, lunges. Walk a few more steps. Strike a pose in front of the mirror and check out your guns. Don’t just say no to that overindulgence, say HELL NO!

Why? Because we want you to live the mantra this week. Even if you don’t feel strong. If you keep telling yourself you’re strong, and pushing yourself to be strong, then, by golly, you WILL be strong. You are capable of creating a transformation in your mind and body. You are capable of being strong.

    I am going through a particularly rough patch right now. And things keep piling up. My motto is “Everything will be okay in the end. If it isn’t okay, it isn’t the end.” and I have a sign in my office that says “Sometimes courage doesn’t roar. Sometimes, courage is the small voice at the end of the day saying I will try again tomorrow.”

      aaaawwww….i’m in the same boat with you… i love your motto…and i hope you don’t mind if i keep that one for myself too and i might have to make a sign with the saying that you have in your office too…. thank you!! :)

  • Kirsten Is one I’ve been using lately. It gets me through most things physical – running – one word per step, or with my pushups – one word on each up and down.

    i did 120# on the leg press today if that counts. goal is to get up to body weight (only one plate away) i like “strong is the new skinny”

    “One Day At A Time” is my mantra for right now….things start going off kilter one day and then I just say “why bother” but for this month I’m going to look at it “one day at a time” and do the best I can EVERY day!

    I believe it and am trying very hard to live it!

    This is perfect timing… I am in some sorta huge funk right now and really caving to the little temptation called comfort and complacency. I am feeling good about my body for the first time in years. That said, I am not at my fullest potential yet and know that I am currently “settling”. It is time for me to get serious and remember just how strong I am!
