True Confessions of Mel | The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans LLC

I confess, I clearly need paid accountability to keep myself on track with my weight loss efforts.  One would think after losing around 70 pounds that I could do this on my own.  Yeah, not so much apparently.

I confess that last week I toyed around with the idea of giving up my Weight Watchers membership.  It’s not that I necessarily want to give it up, but as expensive as gas is here in Southern California ($4.39/gallon for regular the last time I filled up), I’m looking for ways to cut some discretionary spending in order to have some not so discretionary gas in my car.  Given I drive 32 miles each way to and from work, I’m definitely feeling the sting at the pump, that’s for sure!  At the current prices, giving up my $40 per month WW membership wouldn’t even fill my tank a single time.  Yeah, I’m soooo over the high gas prices, can you tell?

Another factor that made me consider giving up WW is that I’ve been using an activity tracking gadget recently that tracks calories in vs. calories out.  So far, I’m LOVING it!  (I’ll be posting more about that at a future date.) In order take full advantage of it, I’m tracking my food on their website in addition to continuing to track in eTools on the WW site.  As you might deduce, that’s just insane a lot of duplication of effort.  So, my thought was that if I gave up WW, I could just keep tracking calories on the other site instead.  I figured as long as I’m tracking somewhere, everything would be fine, right?

Well, it wasn’t!  Even just going through the process of thinking about giving up WW and not facing their scale each week, I found myself letting extra little snacks and such creep into my food plan.  I literally caught myself at one point thinking, “Well, if I’m not paying to go to Weight Watchers, what difference does it make if I gain a little this week? I can always just make up for this next week.”

There, my dear friends, is my personal slippery slope.  I don’t know why, but I just don’t give weighing myself in each week on my home scale the same weight (pardon the pun) that I give weighing in at Weight Watchers.  I guess I’m just too cheap frugal to want to pay money to step on their scale and gain weight.  So, for now, I’ll just have to find some other ways to cut some money from my budget because this Sister needs Weight Watchers!  I need that accountability of paying to step on their scale to help keep my food plan in check.  I’m sure one day I’ll reach the point where that isn’t the case, but I’m just not there yet.  I have so much respect for those of you who are able to do that!!

What about you?  What do you have to confess this week?  Are there any things you “need” in order to keep yourself on track and motivated?  What health, fitness, or weight loss tool can you just not do without?  Leave a comment below and let me know.  Feel free to also leave a comment and link up your own confessions from your personal blog.

P.S. – I confess that I had a BLAST last night at SisterChat over at The ‘Hood.  Seriously, if you weren’t there, you missed out!  Be sure to check it out next Monday night.  Don’t forget that I’ll also be hosting our first Sisterhood Happy Hour chat on Twitter this Thursday night at 10pm CT.  Be sure to follow @shrinkingjeans to join the party.

P.P.S. – I also confess that I might be just a little bit excited about FitBloggin‘ being just over two weeks away! I can’t wait to see all of the Sisters again that I’ve already met in the past, and I’m so excited about meeting many more of you, too!
