What's A Guy To Review? – The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans LLC

So today is supposed to be review it Saturday and I don’t have anything to review, at least not with any authority. I have some new things I’ve purchased recently like a pair of Aqua Sphere Vista swim goggles but I’ve only used them once. I have a new cycling helmet I’ve had a few months now but my outdoor training time is far lower than my indoor time so I can’t yet do a proper review of it. So what is a blogger to do?

Seriously, I’m sitting here with a flashing cursor in my editor …

Maybe I can review how my weight loss has been going over since Fitbloggin on May 20th and when I started blogging here at Shrinking Jeans? Hey, I’m grasping what can I say … sorry 😉

So it’s been 7 weeks since I hit my low weight of 249 pounds just before attending Fitbloggin. Since that point in time I’ve significantly ramped up my triathlon training and pretty much cut my trusted fat burning circuit training. So how has my weight faired with this change?

My weight hasn’t changed a bit since Fitbloggin. Sure it goes up and down depending on food and when I got sick last week it dipped below 249 but overall when I’m doing my training I’m still around 249 . I haven’t dropped any more, or gained any more so I guess that’s a silver lining 🙂

Despite increasing my energy expenditure with lots of swimming, cycling, and running I’ve failed to convert any of that into a weight-loss. You might be wondering why or you might be saying “duhhh”. For those of you wondering how I’ve managed to not lose I have one word for you.

Hunger!

I’m constantly hungry when I’m training lately … I mean I’m seriously famished and as such I’ve been pretty much eating whenever I’m hungry. The last thing I need is to bonk during training or hurt myself because I’m light headed (which has almost happened).

Instead I’ve written off any more weight loss until after my big race on August 14th, Ironman Steelhead 70.3. After the big day I have a few small things planned for the fall but nothing requiring huge training so I can turn my fat burning machine back on again focusing on my tried and true circuits and maybe even throwing some weight-training in to regain some muscle I feel like I’ve lost.

Sure I’d like to find a way to lose and train for my race but anyone who’s trained for an endurance event will tell you, these are conflicting goals. With the increase in training your body needs more energy and if you deprive it of said energy it’s not going to rebuild and improve, it’ll instead catabolize muscle and you’ll actually get worse at whatever you’re training for.

So there you have it, a quickie review of my weight loss this summer and why it’s frozen to a halt. How’s your summer training going?
