For 1 in 6 Americans, hunger is a reality. That means that millions of Americans are struggling with hunger. So many of those people have no idea where their next meal will be coming from. I think this is unacceptable.

September is Hunger Action Month and Feeding America has many ideas for ways to change hunger for those millions of people. If you go to their web site, you can read all about their ideas. There are things you may want to do yourself. You can also go check out Lose for Good on the Weight Watchers website. This is the fourth year for this campaign. They are also sponsoring Lose-A-Palooza. Lose-A-Palooza is a special one-day social media event, part of the Lose For Good® campaign to benefit Share Our Strength® and Action Against Hunger.

When I was doing some research on Feeding America, I remembered a challenge we had in 2009. It was called Shrink for Good and it was awesome. The challenge was for all us to take canned goods to our local food banks. If you go read my post from then, you’ll see all my awesome cans. It was amazing! People were so generous and I truly believe that we made a small difference in hunger.

I would like to start a new challenge. How about if we all go to our cupboards and grocery stores and each one of us fills a grocery bag full of food and takes it to our local food bank? If the spirit moves you, you could fill more than one. You could also make a cash donation, if that is easier for you.

In my post from our first challenge, I said that I donated over 40 pounds of food and took a picture of it all. What do you say when you fill your bag, you blog about it and come back here and leave a link to your post in the comments. I’d love to hear how this made you feel.

I say it’s time we all stepped up to the plate and go to bat against hunger. I think we can hit a home run if we try. What do you say? Are you with me?
