Avoiding the Holiday Bulge | The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans LLC

Next week alone, between my 3 kids, their schools and their after-school activities, we have FIVE holiday parties.  Also, we have a Christmas Tree Hop Pot Luck that our entire family has been invited to next weekend.  Although lots of fun and part of the normal Christmas festivities, the total of these parties could potentially have a disastrous effect on my waist line.  Translation- there will be many choices of yummy foods and beverages.

Am I the only one who has a hard time controlling myself at the Christmas buffet of foods at holiday parties?

Probably not.

Anyhoo, American Council on Exercise reminded me of some great tips on avoiding the holiday bulge, things we can do to avoid excessive holiday weight gain, like:

  • Bring your own healthy treat like a veggie platter
  • Eat something healthy before going to the party
  • Drink a glass of water with every alcoholic beverage
  • Stay away from the dessert tray
  • Pay close attention to portion sizes
  • Avoid going back for seconds

It really doesn’t sound that hard, does it?  It’s really mind over matter, just like with running.  I mastered that- I can master not over-indulging during the holidays and gaining extra pounds, can’t I? What about you- what are your tricks of the trade at keeping the weight gain to a minimum during this month heavy with parties and food craziness? (Visited 4 times, 1 visits today)
