Remember … Thanksgiving is a Holi-DAY – The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans LLC

Feeling a little stuffed after the big Thanksgiving feast extravaganza yesterday?  We all know there us a huge temptation to continue eating the leftovers, so I’m here with a friendly reminder that Thanksgiving is a holi-DAY, not a holi-WEEK.

Since the holiday is now over, this is a great time to jump right back on track with your healthy eating/fitness plans.  In fact, if you’ve signed up for the The Great Maintenance Challenge, getting back on track today is the perfect way to help ensure you meet your challenge goal.  There are six days until the first check-in post for the challenge, so that gives you plenty of time to recover from yesterday’s calorie fest.

Here are some quick tips to help you:

  • Increase your water intake – Drinking plenty of extra water will help your body process all the extra salt, sugar, etc. that goes along with the big Thanksgiving feast.
  • Increase your exercise – The importance of this one is fairly obvious.  Getting in some extra exercise will help make up for some of those extra calories you ate yesterday.
  • Practice some cleaning eating – After the typical carb-fest that usually comes with Thanksgiving, focusing on a few days of eating lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins will help reset your taste buds back to your healthy eating habits.
  • Avoid skipping meals – After the overindulgence of Thanksgiving, many people are often tempted to skip meals (especially breakfast) for a few days.  While it may seem like a good idea to save some calories, it can actually end up backfiring.  Without the body getting those morning calories, it keeps one’s metabolism from firing on all cylinders which means your body will be less effective at burning calories.  So, no skipping meals!
  • Avoid alcohol for a few days – Drinking alcohol can dehydrate the body.  Since the goal is to hydrate by drinking extra water, you shouldn’t cancel out that extra effort by drinking alcohol.

Following these tips should help you get right back on track and recover from your feast.  Do you have any favorite tips for recovering from a big meal like Thanksgiving?  If so, share them with us in the comments below.
