Becoming Me – My Legacy- The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans LLC

Welcome to Becoming Me, a monthly blog series where I set out to answer questions developed by Christie Inge, HHC in an effort to dig a little deeper and get to the heart of some of my esteem, body, and food issues.

Last month, I tackled the issue of the types of things I say to myself about my body.

This month’s question:

If you died, tomorrow, would you be happy with the legacy you would leave behind? Why or why not?

Oh my gosh, nothing like a real thinker to start off your holiday week, right?

I would have to say that yes, I would be happy with the legacy I would leave behind.

I think a lot of us get bogged down in the mistakes that we make. We get too caught up in the small things we mess up each day and use terms like “epic fail” to describe choices we make. But I really feel like if we all stepped back and took a look at the big picture, we would see that we are all doing just fine.

Do I yell at my kids? Yes.

Do they know I love them anyway? Yes.

Do I make every single workout on my training calendar? No.

Do I ever stop trying to make myself a better person? No.

Do I make mistakes with my husband and nitpick some of his bad habits? Yes.

Does he understand that he is my life and that I would move heaven and earth for him? Yes.

While I definitely have a lengthy list of faults, I have an equally lengthy list of things that make me an amazing person.

When I die, I know that I will leave behind a legacy of a mom who kissed her kids every day and a wife who adored her husband. People would remember me as a friend who was fiercely loyal if not a little selfish with her time now and again.

In my heart, I know I’m a good person, and I truly believe that I live my life showing that goodness (with an occasional rough spot) to others.

I am what I am, and I think people will remember me for that.

Individuality, love, loyalty, kindness, fun…. That is my legacy.

How will people remember you? What is your legacy?

Overtime, she found that her greatest gift was helping women, just like her, overcome their struggles, too.
