Practicing yoga on a regular basis can help you strengthen your running legs, keep your body flexible and prevent injury in the long run

Some people shy away from yoga but not I!  Personally, I love yoga but I didn’t really adore it until I became a runner.  After pounding my joints and having sore muscles week after week, my poor body needed some relief and strengthening in particular areas.  That came from yoga.  Oh yoga, how I love thee!

Let’s start with a short and sweet yoga routine that will kick off your day.

Next, I am going to share with you my favorite youtube videos that will lead you through various yoga sequences. None of them are particularly long, but they are long enough to get the job done.

One of my all-time favorite yoga sequences is this 11 min video that focuses on the hips but also stretches the hamstrings, the calves and your torso.

Another favorite of mine, especially in the morning, pre-run is this 7 min yoga sequence for flexibility.  I don’t know about ya’ll, but I have a difficult time rolling out of bed and hitting the asphalt to run.  My body is stiff when I wake up and it can take me some time to loosen up.  This yoga sequence hurries up the process and really, it makes me feel all loosey-goosey and FLEXIBLE, perfect for a morning run.

My last favorite yoga video is this evening sequence, meant to stretch you out, relax your mind, and calm you down.  It is 16 min long, stretches you every which way and most importantly for me, it really does relax me.  The first two times I did this, I feel asleep during the last pose- SERIOUSLY.  I woke up 15 minutes later with drool running down my face!

Well that’s it! Practicing yoga on a regular basis can help you strengthen your running legs, keep your body flexible and prevent injury in the long run.  Hope you enjoyed my list of favorites.
