Ezekiel 4:9 Flax Sprouted Whole Grain Bread {Review/Giveaway}

Bread. Not the first thing I usually reach for when I’m eating healthy. Don’t get me wrong. I love bread. I adore it. But for as long as I can remember it’s been a diet no-no.

When did bread become the devil, anyway?

Honestly, bread can and should be part of a balanced diet. But the trick is making the right choices when picking your bread. I have been an Ezekiel bread fan for years. It takes a bit of getting used to at first, especially if your palate is accustomed to bread made with overprocessed flour – but once you convert, you’ll never want to go back!

Food For Life recently released a new product, Ezekiel 4:9 Flax Sprouted Whole Grain Bread and graciously offered to send me a few loaves to try out and review. The loaves arrived on my doorstep and I promptly threw one loaf in the freezer and one in the fridge. Since Ezekiel bread is not overly processed and doesn’t contain a bunch of strange preservatives, it’s spoils fairly quickly. Which is a good thing – here’s a good rule of thumb – if food spoils, it’s good for you. If it doesn’t, run far, far away. Or something like that.

I’ve been eating a slice of the Ezekiel Flax bread almost every morning since, with a smear of natural almond butter and sliced bananas on top. I honestly look forward to it’s chewy, nutty texture. One slice is more than enough to fill me up and is only 80 calories. In fact, check out this nutrition information:

Pretty stellar, right?

I’ve also tried the bread in sandwiches and even as french toast and both my kids and I have loved it – husband isn’t sold – but he’s a lover of high fructose corn syrup white bread. He wouldn’t even try. Whatever. His loss.

The toddler’s favorite preparation? With chocolate hazelnut spread. Mmmmm.

So obviously I’m pretty much in love with this bread. I really do love all the Food For Life Products and appreciate their mission. And even if you are gluten free or diabetic, they have products for you – that actually taste good.

I find my Ezekiel bread at my local Trader Joe’s. You can use this handy dandy store locator to find some near you…or you can order online. Easy!

Added bonus? The folks at Food For Life have offered to send one of our lucky U.S. readers two loaves of their new Ezekiel 4:9 Flax Sprouted Whole Grain Bread ! You have three chances to enter:

    I, personally, would like to try any and all of their products, but I don’t have a discriminating palate (which is what brought me to Shrinking Jeans in the first place…)! : ) The pocket breads and english muffins definitely appeal to me. I am very excited to see that they will soon be offering waffles and croutons, though! That would be a GREAT way to introduce these healthier alternatives to my kids and husband.
