Final Check-In for Couch to 5K

C25K-Badge
Here we are- done with our the first Virtual Couch to 5K at The Sisterhood.  I cannot believe how fast the time flew by.  I have to ask- how many of you made to the end? Stand up loud and proud, wave your arms in the air and let me give you a huge high-five.  It is difficult to stick with anything for five weeks, let alone something as physical as running.

For my own nosey purposes, could those of you who completed C25K (or are in the midst of completing it), answer a few questions for me….pretty please?  This is the first time we have ever done something like this and I want some input from all of you.

Here goes!

Name
Location
Age
What week did you just complete of C25K?
What surprised you about these nine weeks?
What held you back?
Did you like having these check-ins?
What would you have us do differently if we were to do a virtual program again?
What kind of posts would you like to see more of?
Are you going to keep running?!!!!!

You know, after my first 5k, which just so happened to be a virtual 5K here at Shrinking Jeans (the first one we ever did), I crazily committed to running my first half marathon. C-R-A-Z-Y. But here we are, three years and 5 half marathons later, and I am still running. The support here is invaluable.

As I was running 9 miles this morning- yes, NINE MILES (I’m training for ANOTHER half marathon on March 23), all I could think about is how proud of you guys, and all new runners. Let’s face it- running is hard and not everyone has the discipline nor the commitment nor the will-poer nor the desire to see it through.  Or maybe they just don’t like it.  Whatever the reason, runners are a special group that you now belong to.

YOU ARE A RUNNER.  It doesn’t matter the pace, it doesn’t matter if you take walk breaks, it doesn’t matter if you feel awkward when you run, it doesn’t matter it you feel like you are gasping for air with every step you take- YOU ARE A RUNNER.

Turn around so that I can pat you on the back, then turn back around so that I can high five you and say loud and proud- CONGRATULATIONS!

I missed my last run of week 9 this Thursday – I was sicker than a dog. So sick, in fact, that I cancelled my race plans for today. But yesterday I felt a little less like death, and a little less like death, and a little better…. Today I ran a 6k (it was actually a little long – RunKeeper tells me 4 miles even) in 44 minutes and 11 seconds!

What surprised me? That I saw it through!
    Held me back? Nada.
    Check-ins? Hell yeah!

What to do differently? I can’t think of anything. Maybe a Twitter chat would be fun!
What would I like to see more of? RACE REPORTS! Or progress reports from the participants. Look for my first race report EVER tomorrow!
Am I going to keep running? Absolutely! Undecided at the moment if I’m going to stick with this distance and continue to build the running habit or if I’m going to move on to 10k or half distance. Time will tell :)

What week did you just complete of C25K? 8 and Started 9 on 3/3/13
What surprised you about these nine weeks? The endurance that gets you through to the end of the work out. I chuckle at the fact that I was petrified of the 8 min timeframe… that seems like a breeze now!!
What held you back? The weather here is cold in the winter. So all of my training has been inside on the treadmill. Being winter, the flu went through our house so I am a week behind.
Did you like having these check-ins? Yes!!
What would you have us do differently if we were to do a virtual program again? I am curious as to what happened to the Mentor/Mentee people? I can see that a bunch fell off after a few weeks but what happened to them?
What kind of posts would you like to see more of? Maybe a virtual running club? Or a 10K training program??
Are you going to keep running?!!!!! YES!! I am hooked..I plan to progress to training for 10K. My first race is on St. Patrick’s Day, but i really enjoy the training aspect. Maybe someday a 1/2??
Thank you for this program, I never would have started this on my own!!
