week 2 of the Spring Clean You Challenge

Week 2 of the Spring Clean You Challenge is over and out already! How did you do? Are you planning your *work* and working your *plan*? Are you finding certain areas of Spring Cleaning more challenging than others?

MINI-CHALLENGE

Last week, the weekly mini challenge was to try and get 7 hours of sleep a night. How did that work out for you?  I know how hard this one can be- trust me- but I also know how much better my mood and attitude is after 7+ hours of sleep the night before.  This week, our new mini challenge is going to be to get in FIVE SERVINGS of fruits and veggies PER DAY.  Yes, FIVE SERVINGS.  All of us should be filling up our bodies with the good stuff and not that crappy, processed stuff found on the inner aisles of a grocery store (guilty over here!).  Veggies fill you up, fruit sugars are broken down easily by your body and you know what- it’s time we all ate what we are supposed to eat….right?!  So put down the junk and pick up the good stuff.

What constitutes a serving of fruits and veggies?  I asked my friends at www.about.com and got this answer:

Answer: The United States Department of Agriculture sets a serving size for fruit or vegetables to be equal to about one-half cup. Greens like spinach and lettuce have a serving size equal to one full cup. One serving of sliced fruit is equal to one-half cup; however a single piece of fruit, such as an apple or an orange counts as one serving. How did the USDA decide that one-half cup is a serving size? The decision was based on the portion sizes that people typically eat, ease of use and nutritional content of fruits and vegetables.
