toot your horn / strength

Strength. What does it mean to you? Is it physical? Is it mental? Is it both? Think about it. I’ve had it on my mind a lot the last few days.

It first came to mind on Thursday morning. It was preschool olympics. A girl I work with and I were filling coolers with ice in one corner of the school campus and carrying them to a whole different corner of the campus. They were very heavy. On our walk back, she asked why I wasn’t huffing and puffing. Woooo Hoooo! I wasn’t!! Had I really gotten that much stronger in the last few months?

The next time it crossed my mind was at cardio circuit class. We were doing side iso abs at one of the circuits. I had always done them with one foot on the ground to brace myself. That night, I had both legs straight and one foot on top of the other. I did 60 seconds(3 times)of side dips and never put a foot down. Coincidence? Maybe.

The last time I thought about it was at the next cardio circuit class. We had to do this crazy TRX type thing with this strap contraption thing that hangs off the wall. You sit on the floor, put your heels in the strap, lift yourself up on your hands and swing yourself back and forth through your arms. It probably doesn’t make sense the way I described it, but let me tell you—IT IS HARD. I am sure my form sucked, but dang girlfriends, I freakin did it for 60 seconds. 60 seconds for three circuits!

Until this past week, I hadn’t even considered how much stronger I am getting. It is definitely a physical thing, but I think the mental is just as much a part of it. If you think you can do something, you are going to dig deep and find the strength to do it. That is exactly what I was doing.

How about you? It’s time to toot your horn and tell us about your strength. Where have you been finding it? Leave a comment and tell us all about it. If I found mine, certainly some of you are finding it too. I can’t wait to hear your stories.
