Who Will You Motivate?

I think of myself as an average person. A person who is just doing her best to get back in shape after years of neglect for my body. For the first time in a long time, I am serious about making this fitness and exercise journey mean something. I am serious about making it right. I do it for me. I never considered that it might affect anyone else.

Over the last few weeks, I found out that I have inspired and motivated a few other people to dig deep and do the same thing that I’m doing. Three people told me that what I am doing for me has made them want to do the same thing for themselves. That’s kind of cool.

The funny thing is that I don’t really talk about it much outside of the people that I work out with. What these people saw was the things that My Fitness Pal posts on my Facebook page at the end of each day when I log my food and exercise for the day. They saw my Facebook or Twitter post when I said I was off to a zumba or cardio or yoga class.

They saw when I walked the One America Half Marathon in Indianapolis a few weeks ago and posted pictures as I walked the course. They saw when I posted the picture of this awesome medal I got when I finished the race.

People are watching all the time. I never realized it. I post those things at the end of the day for me. It keeps me accountable for my actions. I make the choices each day for me. But—–other people are watching and reacting. They are choosing to join me in this journey. I am both surprised and proud at the same time. It never occured to me that my actions could motivate someone else to action for themselves. It’s pretty cool.

You could be doing the same thing and not even know it. Someone could be watching you and what you are doing for yourself. You could be someone’s inspiration. So tell me sisters, who will you motivate? You could be the difference to another person beginning their journey into fitness.
