You’ve back from vacation. Bags are unpacked. Laundry started. Pictures shared. Memories made. Stories already being re-told. Relationships with extended family still intact (hopefully!). Work life or the normal routine starting to set in. Everything is set for you to move on and move ahead. Everything but you. Maybe your mind is still back on vacation and maybe you are still thinking of how your health and fitness goals took a wee bit of a vacation of their own while you were away. I know I am. Even after writing this post where I confessed to my fried clams-chowder-lobster rolls extravaganza and not a single running mile to my credit.

Last week, I shared tips on how to make sure your health and fitness goals are as much a part of your travel plans as your favorite flip flops and jean shorts.

Now, we are going to talk about what to do once you get back home and the reality hits you: you are not on vacation any longer. It’s time to face the music and get down to business.  I will tell you the things that have worked for me since coming back. 1. Getting weighed in at my Weight Watchers meeting right after I returned, rather than skipping the weigh in. And 2. reading this very moving post by Lisa.

  1. Start NOW by recommitting today!
  2. DRINK WATER like it’s your job.
  3. PLAN each meal.
  4. EAT. Don’t ‘make-up’ for overeating by not eating.
  5. REVISIT your food journal and repeat a good week.
  6. REMIND yourself how far you’ve come.
  7. MOVE to get your sweat on.
  8. DON’T let one bad meal turn into a bad day turn into a bad week turn into a bad month.
  9. VEGETABLES are your friend.
  10. REPEAT this tomorrow.

Let me add another important step: STOP BEATING YOURSELF UP! You are not defined by your transgressions!
