When the fat girl is listening (plus Wednesday Check In + A Challenge) | The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans LLC

Hi, everyone!

How is everybody? It’s Wednesday so that means it’s time to hop on the scale and see what’s what! How are things looking? Did you have a good week? A not so-good week (ahem)?

Let’s take a look back at the past week. Did you pick ONE item from Lisa’s list and focus on it for seven days? It’s a terrific list! My area of focus was on her No. 5: Sleep. I am a professional night owl and a card-carrying member of the Late Night Union. It’s always a struggle to get a solid 7-8 hours of sleep on a regular basis but this past week I did make it four out of seven nights. That is progress. I am going to continue to work on this in the week ahead also.

I want to issue another challenge as well. This one is not about getting in fruits and veggies and exercise. This one is about being KIND. It’s about words and how you use them. It is no secret to the people who occupy my universe – that is to say, my friends, family, co-workers – that  I am on a health and fitness journey . I post about it on Facebook. I mention it sometimes in conversations, joking about my long-time attendance at Weight Watchers.  I hit the streets around my neighborhood training for a race. If you are like most people trying to lose weight, every day is a battle to win. Every day!

That’s why it crushed me when I overheard a co-worker make a snide comment not directly about my weight but about my choice of food one day for lunch. I don’t want to go into the details here but suffice it to say, I felt pretty crappy the rest of the day. Ladies, I ask you this week to help boost up the women in your universe. Focus on you and stay clear of anyone who belittles you or your efforts. Be careful of your remarks and the words you choose. You never know another person’s struggles. And you never know when the fat girl is listening.
