What would having a little time to yourself do for you today?

Not family time. Not catch-up-on-laundry time. Not clean-out-the-inbox time.

I’m talking about time, precious time, carved out of the next 24 hours in whatever amount you can muster (20 minutes? 30? An hour?) devoted TO you BY you.  That is the thought behind Self-kindness Sunday.

I posted about this last year but we have vastly grown in the number of ladies hanging out here at the ‘Hood since then, so I thought it was time to talk about Self-kindness Sunday again.

We all know the demands placed upon us. Work , family life, community obligations. Trying to keep connected with family and friends in meaningful ways.  The list goes on and on.  When was the last time you took some time for yourself to do a) whatever the heck you wanted or b) not one damn thing? Both can be blissful and restorative.  What would it do for your energy level to do something today where you show yourself some kindness? Some gentleness?  ( I like the idea of the “Do Not Disturb” door knob holder used in hotels. I must get one!)

As I write this, I know I will be meeting a dear friend for a 5k race in the morning. We have done this race many times together and view it as a way for us to spend some time together and catch up. That will bea  treat for me. But once I am back home, I will be practicing Self-kindness Sunday with some reading and a  nap. And there is no guilt and shame in that. When my session is over, I will go about getting the laundry done and the other things I ‘have” to do.

Will you join me in doing something kind for yourself today? And will you join me in sharing about it? Hit us up in the comments or use #SelfkindnessSunday on Twitter.  And then whaddya say we make it a weekly habit?
