Good morning Sisterhood readers! How is this beautiful Wednesday treating you? I have to say I’m a little out of sorts this morning. I think putting my contacts in the wrong eyes this morning might have something to do with it, and it would probably help immensely if I went and swapped them. And the fact that summer is this><close to being over. Where did summer go? How did it go so fast?!
Did you enjoy your summer? What fun things did you with your family? Did you travel? Just hang out and chill? Run a fun race? Or get a little closer to your weight loss goal?
I read somewhere the other day that August is like the ‘Sunday of summer’. You want it to last forever, but inevitably it ends and there’s Monday/September slapping you in the face!
Another reason I’m feeling a bit out of sorts is the suicide of Robin Williams. It’s really weighing heavily on me this week. You can’t be on Facebook, or Twitter, or turn on the news without being inundated with the story. I’m 38, and grew up with Mork & Mindy. All of my favorite movies include Robin Williams. Patch Adams, Peter Pan, Dead Poet’s Society, Aladdin, Good Will Hunting. And who can forget the Bird Cage? Depression and addiction are evil monsters, and it’s always heartbreaking when someone feels so low, so desperate, so horrible, that suicide feels like their only option. Know the signs, educate yourself on what to say; what not to say. Today, this week, next month, I want you to reach out to someone that might be suffering from depression. Let them know you’re there and that you care.
And if YOU are feeling so badly about life that you’re thinking the world would be a better place without YOU in it, please visit the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. You don’t even have to call, you can chat online with someone. But if you’d like to speak to someone, please call: 1-800-273-8255. And please know that you matter. Your life is very precious.
What’s keeping you busy this month? Is it just me, or is August just busy/hard/flying by this year? Are you feeling out of sorts?
I think I’ll go spend some time in my hammock with a good book, or maybe I’ll share it with my kids, in hopes that the world will spin a little slower today.
