Sunset – Fitness Friday | The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans LLC

Hello Fitness Friday enthusiasts!! My favorite time of the day is sunset! This is one of my favorite pictures of sunset I have ever taken and it was taken last November while I was walking the Susan G. Komen 3-Day in San Diego. I was finishing up my first 20 miles (of 60) in San Diego on Friday evening. I was tired and ready to rest my feet, but looking out over the Pacific Ocean I saw this sunset and suddenly realized that there is beauty all around me and I need to make the most of it!

Sunset has always been one of my favorite times of the day and my favorite time to get outside and do something active. Going for a walk or run, bike ride or maybe for the younger crowd roller skating, right around sunset is a great way to get some exercise late in the day to help you prepare for a good night of sleep, just don’t do it too close to bedtime or you will be full of those wonderful endorphins and you won’t be able to sleep because of those. I think Fall is a great time to get outside in the evening and enjoy the cooler temperatures, especially after the hot summer nights.

In Texas, Friday evening means high school football and it is huge around here.  We aren’t huge football fans in our house but we do like to end our busy week with some kind of activity on Friday evenings. My 10 year told son is just 2 1/2 months away from his black belt in American Karate so our Friday nights will be spent inside the karate studio, but while he is working up a sweat inside the studio I will be taking nice long walks and enjoying the cooler evening temperatures. (Win, win for both of us!)

There are lots of great ways to enjoy the sunset and cooler temperatures while getting some fun exercise on a Friday evening. Here are just a few I would like to suggest.

  • Go to a local park and play on the playground equipment, play tag, or hide and seek! When you are done playing lay down on a blanket and look up at the sky and watch the stars show up!
  • Go for an evening walk with the family. Spend the time catching up from the busy week and talking about plans for the weekend. Finish your walk with a nice bottle of water or maybe even a special treat.
  • Get the bikes out and find a fun trail to ride them on. Bike riding is a great way to connect with the less travelled roads, but make sure you are wearing reflective clothes and have lights if you go in the evening.
  • Go outside and gather together neighbors and get an old fashioned game of tag going with your neighbors. Its a great way to get neighbors together and run around and have some fun in the cooler evenings of fall.

How are you going to enjoy the cooler evenings of fall? Whatever you do, do something fun to enjoy the beautiful sunset. Do you enjoy watching the sunset or the sunrise? Let me know in the comments below.

xoxoxo,

Ann

P.S.    Please pardon my disjointed post…I burned three of the fingers on my left hand Wednesday night and I’m on pain medication! I will be okay in a week or so but please heed this friendly word of advice, don’t cook on the grill without using potholders!!
