Purging the Mess Has Freed My Mind

0

I have a confession to make.

I am not as clean and organized as I may appear to be.

Oh, I want to be both of those things but, I am not.  I collect papers and books and receipts and stuff.  I take my kids’ school papers to file away but don’t actually file them away.  I stack magazines to read but don’t have the time to read them.  I read all papers I receive the first time I look at them, then put them aside to look at again later but then I don’t look at them again.  I stack books by the bed to read but then, when I have time to read, I borrow books from the library and read them on my tablet.

Are you following me?  Am I painting a picture for you?  My stacks of papers, books and whatnot had reach a fevered pitch and the clutter was just weighing me down, especially in my computer desk area.  I had so many papers around my laptop that I couldn’t work there. I would remove the laptop and take it to the kitchen which had more open space.

My husband, who is prior military and all about the organization is only too ready to *help* me get my act together, but for some reason, I can’t accept his help .  I have to do it MY way.  I sound like a teenager rebelling against my parent.

Regardless, the clutter was starting to get to me and it was really bothering me, so last night, I did something about it.

While the hubby put the kids to bed, I sorted, cleared, threw away, put away, dusted, vacuumed and organized.  My computer desk is now free of papers!  My bookshelf only has books about running (duh!) and self help with all fiction going to the *fiction* bookshelf in another part of the house.  All kids toys/clothes/stuff were returned to their rooms, recipe printouts were put in the recipe binder, kids’ school papers were filed, old receipts were thrown away, and on and on.

It was FREEING to put away and get rid of all the CRAP!!!

If I can do it, so can you.

I challenge you to pick one area that has been bothering you (Hey! Baby steps, ya’ll!!!  Ya’ll haven’t seen my closet nor kitchen cupboards- ha!) and do one or all of the following:

SORT

THROW

FILE

CLEAN

I vote for all four.  You will thank me, I promise.

I feel like I can face the weeks ahead and tackle the holidays a little less cluttered.

Purging the messing has freed my mind.
