Are you all loving our new fitness challenges here at The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans? I’m so inspired by everyone who has signed up to participate. Last week, Melissa told you about our latest wellness challenge – Get YoursElf Off the Shelf. If you missed that post, click on that little link there and get yoursElf all caught up.
Are we good? Basically, we have all sorts of fabulous ways for you to stay healthy this holiday season: a DietBet, daily emails with wellness challenges, a new workout calendar and Sisterhoods Shots calendar. TONS of fun stuff.
Want one more???? Come on, I know you do!
How about a Get YoursElf Off the Shelf: 25 Miles to Christmas mile challenge? The way it works is you will log (at least) 25 miles between now and Christmas. (Since we are starting a day late, I’ll even give you until Dec. 26th to get your miles in – that’s 25 miles in 25 days.) There are many ways to do this, but I do have a few “rules”.
- The miles must be accrued through EXERCISE ON FOOT. You can run or walk and it can be outside or inside on a track or treadmill – you need to be able to log the distance somehow. Use your Garmin, MapMyRun, or the treadmill’s display – just try to be as accurate as possible. I’m excluding biking because many of you could hit 25 miles in just a few days. This challenge is designed to keep you busy for the whole month. (Cyclists, you know I love you so maybe we’ll try a biking miles challenge when the weather gets better.)
- Daily step counts don’t count for the challenge. Sorry. Yes, getting your 10K steps a day in is fantastic – KEEP IT UP! For this challenge, I want you to go outside your daily comfort zone and add some extra miles. Remember, this is an exercise challenge.
- You can do a mile a day – like a run streak – or several miles a day a few times a week. For my Couch to 5k group – you should be able to hit this doing your regular c25k workouts plus maybe a few extra days. 3 miles, 3 times a week will get you there. I know many of us (myself included) don’t respond well to run streaks, so I wanted to set this up so you could run or walk every other day and still get there.
- Print off the calendar. When you run or walk a mile, put a checkmark on that day. You did 3 miles? Put down 3 checkmarks! Had a long run day and went 8 – 8 checkmarks go on your calendar! Easy peasy lemon squeezy! After Christmas, there might be a special giveaway for those who participated in the challenge. *hint hint* So, save your work – you could be asked to show it!
What do you think? Are you excited to log some miles this December? Who’s going to log at least 25 miles between now and Christmas with me?
*edit* – Any run or walk miles you may have done on Monday, Dec. 1st can count. Also – a few people asked about FitBit step counts. Those do not count unless you are doing ACTUAL exercise – like going out with the intention of a 1 mile walk or a 2 mile run, something like that. You can certainly count those miles towards your daily steps though. Think about your intention. I’d like you to acrue 25 miles from walking or running EXERCISE. If you are just walking around your house doing your daily activities or walking around your workplace please head out for a 1 mile walk too. Have fun!
