SonicFuel In-Ear Headphones Review and Giveaway | The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans LLC

What’s up, friends?  Did you all just love the giant 2014 Holiday Gift Guide?  Giving away so many prizes makes me feel like Santa 🙂  I’m so excited to tell you that the giveaways just keep on coming!  We’ve had a few companies contact us for reviews and giveaways that didn’t make it into the gift guide – so win-win for all of you.

Today we are going to talk about headphones.  Do you struggle to find comfortable headphones that stay in your ears when you run or workout?  I think many of us have that problem, I know I do.  I was sent a pair of Audio-Technica’s ATH-CKX5iS Sonic Fuel In-Ear Headphones to try out.

According to their website, “The ATH-CKX5iS SonicFuel in-ear headphones feature stay-in-place fit, providing unique comfort in addition to optimal sound. The C-tip configuration nestles within the ear where it locks in place for extra stability. A 360˚ rotating eartip adjusts to the unique angle of your ear canal for personalized fit and improved sound isolation.”

The SonicFuel come in 5 different colors (our giveaway is a green pair, just like mine) and they are very customizable.  With 3 different sizes of C-tips and 4 eartip sizes you will find the combination that works best for you.  There is also an in-line microphone with volume control as well, making these compatible with most smartphones.  I’ve worn mine for both gym and running workouts and they were comfortable and did not fall out of my ears.  It took some work to get the sizes changed (I ended up with small C-tips and the extra-small eartips) but once I found what worked they were great.  I did notice if I pushed them farther into my ear or used the next size up eartip, the bass sound was better but I also lost the ability to hear ambient noise.  So, unless you are at the gym and want to block out the grunts of the guy next to you, you might want to only wear one earbud or switch to a smaller size so you can hear environmental noise.  I’d strongly recommend only wearing one if you are outside running on the roads.

Pros:

  • Highly customizeable
  • Comfortable
  • Fun colors
  • Good sound
  • 2-year warranty

Cons:

  • Hard to change eartip pieces
  • Block out ambient noise
  • Need to be very tight to get a good bass sound
  • In-line microphone sits very low on the cord.  When I used it for a call, my friend couldn’t hear me unless I held the microphone closer to my mouth
  • No clip to keep the cords contained (this is a matter of personal preference to me and would also help keep the microphone closer to the mouth)

You can find Audio-Technica on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, and Instagram.
