This Girl Can! Talk about a powerful statement. I saw the most amazing video the other night on You Tube. It was 90 seconds of pure awesome. Here it is.
I jiggle therefore I am. Didn’t you just want to jump up and cheer when that flashed on the screen? I know I did. I have jiggled for as long as I can remember, but I still get out there and workout. Body image is so screwed up in our society these days. This video shows that you don’t have to be a size 0 to get out there and be active.
I read a story in The Huffington Post about this video. One of the paragraphs said “In ‘This Girl Can’ we want to tell the real story of women who exercise and play sport,” Price said. “They come in all shapes and sizes and all levels of ability. They have a myriad of reasons for doing what they do. If you are wondering if you should join them -– or carry on -– this campaign says it really doesn’t matter if you are a bit rubbish or completely brilliant, the main thing is that you are a woman and you are doing something, and that deserves to be celebrated.” You can read the whole post here.
Remember when Lisa did the post about picking your one word for the new year? The word that I picked was empower. This video screams empower to me. I think that is one of the reasons I love it so much. This makes me want to get in shape and exercise more than any generic weight loss ad I have ever seen. This empowers rather than makes me feel bad about the fact that I’m not a size 0. Size 14 is okay. I jiggle therefore I am!! I hope that women will watch this video over and over and take what it is saying to heart.
