Have you ever dreamed of traveling and doing destination races? I do. Every day. What better way to experience a city or countryside than running through it on foot, and then staying a few days extra as a tourist?

My first half marathon was with Team In Training, and I chose to run the San Diego Rock & Roll Half Marathon because HELLO, southern California with an awesome group of friends (Team Shrinking Jeans!) for a long weekend. It was everything I hoped it would be and more, and a memory I will forever cherish. I’m so glad I had such a special time for my first half marathon. I’ve gone on to run several races since that first sunny half, but all have been in my (totally awesome) home state of Texas.

I do still dream of traveling and running in beautiful locations all the time, and I was recently presented with an amazing opportunity to travel to one of the most historic places on earth AND run. Jerusalem, Isreal!

On this trip, I will be a guest of the Israel Ministry of Tourism as part of a press group covering the Jerusalem Winner Marathon on March 13, 2015. I’m leaving today and will spend the next week touring Israel, taking photographs, running the 5K, soaking in the Dead Sea, and taking in all of the beautiful history Israel has to offer.

About the Jerusalem Winner Marathon

The Jerusalem Winner Marathon is an annual marathon running event held in Jerusalem during the month of March. This is the fifth year of the Jerusalem Marathon, and there are expected to be more than 25,000 participants! The course begins at Israel’s parliament, passes through Mount Scopus and the Old City, and finishes at Sacher Park.

Ahhhh, if only I were in half marathon condition for this chance of a lifetime race. Thankfully, in addition to the full and half marathon distances, they also offer a 10K and 5K distances (that’s me!).

Stay tuned for a full trip and race report when I return next week, and make sure you’re following me on Instagram @sisterhoodsj where I’ll be posting photos as I take them! You can search for the #goisrael hashtag to see other photos and posts from the other members of the press group as well. And don’t miss us on Facebook, where I’ll have a special photo album to share my photos from the Jerusalem Marathon and tourism adventures.

Have you ever done a destination race? If you could do a race anywhere, which race would you choose?
