Would you walk through the beautiful door? | The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans LLC

I came across this Dove Choose Beautiful video this morning. Wow.

Which door would you choose? Do you see yourself as beautiful or average?

Every day we are bombarded with our own negative thoughts. Our own self-doubts. But given a choice to walk through an average or beautiful door, which would we choose?

Would you choose beautiful and then feel self-conscious of your choice? Or would you choose average because you feel like that’s the way the world perceives you?

Or do you even feel average?

Last week I asked you share, via email, your own negative self talk, and I was blown away by the responses I received. To be honest, I cried while I read them. I cried tears of sadness for the way we think of our bodies, our minds, our feelings of worth. And I cried tears of joy for some of the amazing thoughts you shared with me. They weren’t all bad!

We can be very ugly to ourselves in our mind.

We doubt ourselves a million times a day.

I wanted to SCREAM: YOU ARE AMAZING AND SMART AND BEAUTIFUL AND FUNNY AND SO VERY CAPABLE.

Instead of screaming (and freaking out my kids) I responded to each email with those words. I told each woman, many of whom were familiar to me, how special they were. I pointed out things about them I admired and loved. If they weren’t familiar, I tried my best to lift them up with kind words.

Why not choose to feel beautiful today? To BE beautiful, today? Okay?

“Beautiful is a great word, so why not see what’s on the other side of that?”
