Don't Break the Chain

I’m pretty good at making goals. I absolutely love outlining every awesome thing I’m going to accomplish. I’ll spend hours planning it all out, creating calendars, reward programs, daydreaming about how great I’ll feel once I’m on the other side and have attained my goals. Two weeks later I’ve lost all my momentum and put what I was so passionate about initially on the back burner yet again. The question I always ask myself in the end is “What can I do differently to make it stick?”

Well, I have found the answer. On the last place I thought to look… the Internet! Who would have thought? A quick delve into the world wide web brought me to the website Chains. The great thing about this site is that it is it gives you exactly what you want it to. You set your own goal and therefore there is no reason for you not to be able to do it.

The premise is simple – just don’t break the chain. This site lets you set your own goal, creates a space where you can find support (and support others), and also creates a visual representation of all the hard work you’ve done so far. It can be anything in the world, so don’t feel limited to just fitness goals, but there’s nothing wrong with them! If you are wanting to grow intellectually, spiritually, socially, or physically, you can do it.

For myself, there are two chains I’m starting with. The first is to walk our dog Sadie every day. The beau and I adopted Sadie about a month ago and while I find it easy to take her to the dog park about 4 times a week, I tend to let her run while I sit on my tush and socialize. Walking her just 1 easy mile each day will help make the both of us happier in the long run. My second chain is to practice Spanish every day. My dream job is to work as a Spanish interpreter, and while I graduated with a minor in Spanish I haven’t cracked open a book since classes ended in May. By dedicating myself to 30 minutes of Spanish language immersion each day, I will (hopefully) get my mind back into the language that I love and back on track to my dream job.

If you want to join me, I created a private group for anyone who comes to the site through our website. I’m going to try my hardest to keep my chains going until December 1st. The only exception is of course when I pop out my little one! I hope to only take a 5 day break after he comes and then get back into it, but this is my first time so I don’t exactly know what to expect.

I hope to see you on there!
