Stitch Fix Review {June & July 2015}

0

This may be the granddaddy of all Stitch Fix review posts. I typically find those pretty little boxes on my doorstep every three weeks or so, and then force myself to shower and put makeup on so that I can actually look halfway decent while my 12-year-old takes photographs of me modeling the fashions my stylist has chosen for me. But, SUMMER. Somehow, I had three fixes just waiting to be captured on camera. I was having a pretty good hair day, so I demanded my boy stop playing soccer and help his old momma out.

How Does Stitch Fix Work?

It’s so easy to get started with Stitch Fix –fill out your personal style profile, schedule your first fix, and then tear into it when it arrives on your doorstep a few weeks later. A personal stylist actually hand-selects five items for you based upon your style profile, requests, and budget preferences. When your fix is scheduled, you pay a $20 styling fee. If you keep any item from your Fix, this $20 is applied to your purchase. If you keep nothing, you lose your twenty bucks… wah, wah, wah. If you keep ALL the items, you also receive a 25% discount off all the items! You have three days to decide what’s staying and what’s not, then you just throw your return pile into a postage-paid bag and drop it in the mail! So easy! At the present time, Stitch Fix only styles women sizes 0/XS through 14/XL. They also offer maternity and petite sizing.

Tips to Get Your Best Fix:

When you check-out online, you have the option to leave feedback on each item for your stylist –do this! It helps your stylist nail down your style and personal preferences. Did you love the color of dress she sent, but not the style? Let her know! Were the shorts she sent way too short? Make sure you mention it!

If you find a stylist you love, request her on your next Fix! I’ve had the same stylist for months now, and I adore her. She does a fantastic job of selecting pieces for me, and is willing to look at my notes to see what I like, dislike, and what events I have coming up!

Make a Pinterest board with your favorite fashions and keep it updated. Link to it on your Stitch Fix style profile, so your stylist will have easy access! Do you see a piece in this post that you want in your fix? PIN IT!

Check out reviews from other Stitch Fix’ers, and if you see pieces you like, pin them to your Pinterest board or request them specifically in a note to your stylist.

My Fixes

Fix #25:

Kut From the Kloth Cibrian Lace Detail Top, $68:  I love the soft, romantic, bohemian look of this top. It can be dressy or casual, depending on what you pair it with. I’ve worn it with shorts, boyfriend jeans, and it also looks great with the Pixley Stacey Scallop Hem Cut-Out Detail Skirt (see my next fix, below). Verdict: KEEP. Get in my closet!

Pixley Jakobe Chevron Print Maxi Dress, $78: For some reason, when I was trying to find all my pieces to photograph last weekend, this dress was nowhere to be found. I imagine that it’s at the bottom of my mountainous piles of laundry? Anyway, I love this maxi dress and have worn it many times since it’s arrival. I dug through my phone pics and found a selfie that gives a hint of the color and print. Verdict: KEEP.

Papermoon Arian Ruffle Front Dress, $68:  You can never go wrong with a simple black dress, especially a black dress as feminine as this one! I love all the ruffle detailing around the neckline. Verdict: KEEP.

Skies are Blue Avena Sleeveless Split Neck Top, $44: I normally am not a fan of split neck sleeveless tops, but I’m a country girl at heart and this plaid print called to me. My daughter screamed, “Mom! NO!”, and I laughed and said, “YES!” This shirt is perfect for our farm days! Yee-HAW! Verdict: KEEP.

This is me twirling my invisible lasso:

Laila Jayde Bowie Solid Dolman Sleeve Top, $58: I’m actually wearing this top as I type this post. I absolutely love it. The top actually has a slight light purple hue to it, so it’s not quite your basic white. It looks great with jeans, as well as maxi skirts! I love the Dolman style and the fabric of this shirt. I’ve paired it with the Dear John Lillie Cuffed Short {see fix below}. Verdict: KEEP.

Fix #26:

For this fix, I requested pieces to wear for our upcoming adoption. The blue dress I ended up wearing is actually a dress I received in a fix last year!

31 Bits Aurora Long Beaded Necklace, $32: I love, love, love this necklace. I adore everything from 31 Bits. The jewelry is made by women in Uganda, empowering them to rise above poverty. I wore this necklace in our recent family photos after we finalized the adoption of our little girl! Yes, those are ALL my kids! Verdict: KEEP. I’ll keep the necklace, too.

Collective Concepts Miramar Crochet Trim Top, $64:  I had a complete fail with this box. I totally forgot to photograph the pieces I sent back before I sent them back. OOPS! I liked this shirt, but for $64, I just felt that it was too similar to the top I had been sent the prior fix from Kut from the Kloth. You can see another reviewer’s photo of this piece here. Verdict: SENT BACK.

Pixley Millie Textured Dress, $68: Another one I forgot to photograph. This dress is super cute. The pattern is a bit busy -think honeycomb- but the dress fit really well and looked great on. I felt like the pattern would just SCREAM in family pictures at our adoption and I have kept so many dresses from fixes lately, so I decided to send this one back. You can see Ashley from Spoonful of Flavor wearing the dress here. Verdict: SENT BACK.

Sugarlips Julie Crochet Dress, $48: I loved this dress –the boho feel, the fabric, the cute rope around the waist. I decided this was a definite contender for Adoption Dress. The only problem? I wasn’t sure about the bra situation. I didn’t want to go strapless, yet you would be able to see any straps. As of the weekend, this dress was still hanging in my closet with the tags and I decided it was too short for me, so I sold it to a friend instead. Verdict: KEEP, then NOT KEEP.

Pixley Stacey Scallop Hem Cut-Out Detail Skirt, $64: I very rarely wear skirts. I’m all for dresses, all summer long, but skirts require more effort. You actually have to find tops to go with them… the horror! I like simple and easy. BUT… this skirt!! How cute is it? I loved it the minute I pulled it out of the box and it’s definitely a keeper! Verdict: KEEP.

Fix #27:

I requested shorts and dangly earrings this fix. I also noted that I don’t do short shorts. Ain’t nobody need to see that.

Zad Crawford Mesh Triangle Earrings, $32:  You’re never fully dressed without dangly earrings. Love. Verdict: KEEP.

Level 99 Cindie Printed Short, $84: I will save you all from seeing a photo of me in these shorts. Remember my request for shorts that aren’t SHORT? Yeah. Just NO. And $84? Hell no. Verdict: SENT BACK. FAST.

Dear John Lillie Cuffed Short, $58: These shorts arrived cuffed. And SHORT. Maybe my definition of short shorts is different than everyone else’s version of short shorts??? If I unrolled the shorts, however, they were acceptable. I have been looking for a pair of jean shorts, so even though these were a tad big, I kept them and hoped they would shrink a bit in the dryer. Verdict: KEEP.

Papermoon Jennica Dress, $68: This was definitely my favorite item in the box. Remember how I said I have enough dresses? Well, I had to make an exception for this dress. It’s so comfortable, yet adorable. Also, I love gray. And crochet detailing. Verdict: KEEP! I did put a note to my stylist for my upcoming fix… no more dresses! And this time, I’m sticking to it!

Ignore the crazy out-of-control tree trying to engulf me.

THML Ryad Print Panel Top, $54: I was so excited when I pulled this black top our of my last fix! I absolutely love the detailing down the front. It will be a great piece to wear as we transition into fall in North Dakota, as it can be paired with cardigans in the cooler weather. Verdict: KEEP.

That’s it, folks. I applaud you if you made it all the way through this crazy-long post! Now, let’s hear from you! What styles are you loving right now? What are your favorite pieces?
