After a long hiatus from running, I’ve finally gotten back to it and I’m following the Couch to 5K program from Active.com. I absolutely love everything about the app, including the fact that it gives me verbal prompts, and tells me my running and walking pace. It’s funny, because when I started running 6 years ago, I didn’t even own a smart phone, only an iPod shuffle, and there was no C25K app back then. Oh, there maybe have been an audio download with verbal cues, but I just used a stopwatch to time my intervals. My gosh, it was like living the in the dark ages!
These days new runners have a lot of advantages over runners who started 10 years ago…heck, even 5 years ago. Mobile devices with running & GPS apps, safety apps, a camera, and music that doesn’t involve a cassette tape player strapped to your waist band, make running much more enjoyable. We can rock out, track our exact mileage and route, keep track of our heart rate and calorie burn, and snap a few pictures of the baby deer on our trail (not to mention a few sweaty selfies), and post it all to Facebook with the touch of a few buttons on the cool down walk back home.
Using your mobile device during a workout can leave you vulnerable to drops
or other accidents but Corning® Gorilla® Glass 4 provides protection and peace of mind. If you’re like me, I run with my phone in my hand, which means I drop it fairly regularly. I’ve been lucky so far that my screen has stayed intact, but having a device with Gorilla Glass 4 can dramatically improve protection against drops since it’s the toughest cover glass yet.
In laboratory tests, Gorilla Glass 4 survives up to 80% of the time when dropped from 3 feet high, and was up to 2x tougher than competitive glass designs. You can see in this video just how intense the tests are:
Starting over with running is hard both physically and mentally, but having a phone with Gorilla Glass helps improve my runs and make them much more enjoyable. Being able to zone out to Ed Sheeran and wait for the ‘walk’, ‘run’, and (my favorite) ‘cool down’ prompts takes the guesswork out of my runs and just makes life a little less complicated.
