Are You Too Tired To Exercise? | The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans LLC

Are you like most people I know who complain that they are just too tired and busy to exercise? I know that I have been sitting around making excuses far too much lately. I have been crazy-busy taking care of life, family, and preparing for the Christmas holidays. I have also noticed that each night when I finally fall into bed, I am not sleeping as well as I usually do, even though I am in bed a couple of hours longer than normal. I just don’t seem to have the energy level that I usually do.

I did what most people do and I ran to the doctor and said, “Doctor, what is wrong with me? Why can’t I lose weight? Why am I so tired? Why do I not have the energy I usually do?” He proceeded to ask me several questions and ran a couple of vials of blood work. The questions were simple, “What is different in your life? Are you under additional stress? Are you exercising like you normally do? How are you eating?”

Hold on there….maybe we are onto something.

Exercise?  What’s that? Is that like when you get sweaty and your heart goes up? Um….yeah, I don’t think my body remembers what that is. The carpal tunnel in my wrist has mentally hindered me a lot more than it has physically.

Eating right? As in, eating fruits and veggies and not eating much sugar? I think I forgot what a veggie is? And my fruit drawer in the refrigerator has some really mushy apples. Oh, and don’t forget those bananas on the counter that are so brown they are attracting gnats! (Not really but that is only because I hate bugs more than veggies, so I throw the bananas in the freezer before they attract bugs!) and sugar? Somehow has become one of my major food groups.

More stress than normal? Yep, that’s been a biggie this year, too!

There are a lot of excuses that I give as to why I feel the way I have been the past few months, but the bottom line, according to my doctor, is “I need to exercise more, eat more fruits and veggies, and consume a lot less sugar.” He was impressed with the fact that I just hit a huge marker of 100 days without soda! Previously, my record was 7 weeks, so I blew that out of the water!

Why have I been such a slacker? Because I am tired. ALWAYS.SO.TIRED!! And why am I so tired?

Well, I just read an article that may explain this a bit better, with a bit of science behind it. Go read it…I will wait!

You’re back…good! Now, I will share my thoughts on it without all the science-y terminology!

Before I do, though, this is my favorite quote of the whole article: “Chronic exercise beats chronic fatigue every time”!

Exercise makes our heart pump, making blood flow to all areas of our body more efficiently than it does when we sit around on our arse all the time. When we exercise, our blood is working more efficiently. When we exercise, we sleep better. When we exercise, we require less sleep too. Exercising also makes us strive to eat better. Why would we want to workout hard for an hour (or even half an hour) and then ruin all that hard work by eating foods that don’t properly fuel our body?

There are only a couple of weeks left in this calendar year (how is that possible?) and it’s a super busy time, so I need to make the most of it. I need to exercise and improve my eating habits. I need to stop letting stress get me down. I need to stop feeding the stress more by eating so much sugar! I need to focus on me a little bit more, so that I can get through this year feeling like I have accomplished something, instead of feeling like I have accomplished nothing! One of the best things I can do for myself and my family is to exercise. It will give me more energy and make me more productive!

I can do all of this by just adding thirty minutes of EXERCISE into my life daily! Sounds like a win-win to me!!

xoxoxo,

Ann
