At 25, Melissa is the proud mother of a 1.5 year old boisterous boy….who just happens to have four legs and be covered in hair. Klondike and Melissa live at the foot of the Rockies in Fort Collins, CO. Born and raised there, she loves the outdoors and has been active in sports and fitness since she can remember. She grew up riding horses on a family-owned farm (and cleaning stalls), and played competitive fast-pitch softball for eight years. She has a BA in Journalism and a BA in Spanish from Colorado State University. She also is a certified EMT, just for kicks. Melissa loves to travel. She has visited 13 countries, and completed two studies abroad where she lived in three countries. Her favorite country she’s visited so far is hands-down Peru.
Melissa has struggled with foot and leg problems since 2008 when she severely broke her left foot in a freak accident playing slow-pitch co-ed softball. She has since had three foot surgeries and one bi-lateral leg surgery. Her last and (hopefully) final surgery resulted in the fusion of her left foot. Five screws, one metal plate and 1.5 years later, she is finally back on her feet (pun intended) and getting back to the fitness level she’d like to achieve. Needless to say, she hates crutches with a burning passion.
After her last surgery, Melissa decided she needed a special kind of friend. Enter Klondike. Her 90 pound lab keeps her on her toes; he enjoys taking her for walks, hikes, swims and the occasional jog. Melissa attends heavy bag boxing classes at her gym, as well as cross fit. Running is temporarily out of the picture, but she plans to get back in to it as her foot allows. She loves eating healthy, but cooking (erm patience for cooking) has never been one of her strong points. Maybe someday….
